“Where is the ‘on’ switch for this thing?” – Eko is used to basking in the fire and he stubbornly stood on the bricks in an attempt to will the fireplace back to life
“Oh fire, where are you?” – I gave Eko a closer look to prove that his beloved fire wasn’t hiding. He was incredulous that I had let it die
“Will, we’re going to need to do something about this.”
As usual, Eko was right. The weather wasn’t getting any warmer and I was going to need to use the fireplace just as much as him. Since dogs are experts when it comes to sticks, I reasoned that they must have a similar expertise when it comes to evaluating logs. I brought Eko to pickup firewood as my quality control expert.
After careful inspection from Eko, I loaded up the car with as much wood as I could carry
Eko was even kind enough to help me unload the car…
Or at least that’s what I though he was doing. Turns out that even for an expert like Eko it is very difficult to distinguish between wood meant for fires and wood meant for fetch!
“Now THAT”S what I’m talking about, baby!”
Bring it on winter – Eko and I are ready! Is your pet? How does he/she like to keep warm when it gets cold out?
My dog stays warm by sleeping as close to us as possible and sucking all of our BTUs. Plus she has a blanket. I think she would love a fireplace as well. Glad that Eko is ready for winter! 😉
How mean of you to confuse Elko like that. Poor thing waiting for the warm fire. Glad he at least supervised the wood collection.
It’s getting cold here in Boston too! Tonto likes to keep warm (year round) by sitting on top of humans. How kind of him! 😛
My cats like my lap; I don’t mind most times since it keeps me warm too.
P.S. I love reading your blog despite being owned by cats
I think it is BEYOND COOL (or should I say WARM lol) that your apt has a fireplace! I sooo wish that our condo did. Yours is so cute too! Love that Eko loves to lay by it. Dakota keeps warm through his fur I think……he has enough fur for FOUR dogs!
Lol. Eko certainly looks happy with the fireplace working:) Alex and I are ready for the winter with her so much hated sweaters I make her wear. I have to bribe her with delicious treats as I put her sweaters on since she gets cold very easy. Great post:)
Eko, your sweet face brightens my day. Enjoy that warm fire.
How much wood could a Ridgeback chuck . . . ?
Well since the weather got cold my 10 lb shitzu poodle has been sleeping close to me in bed instead of on his own bed of comforters on the floor which had devised over the summer months. He is almost 13. He is one of the best mannered most loved dog I have the honor of knowing.
He also just got a brand new waterproof winter coat for Ohio is already getting cold.
We’ve been enjoying the fireplace too, except ours is gas log and I just flip a switch on the wall…cheating really, but still cozy. The Diva’s think they live in Florida, it’s a constant 73 degrees inside, no snow and play time is right on schedule. They are oblivious to the perils of winter. Blossum does seem interested in the snowflakes outside the window but only because they’re flying by….”NO no Blossum, that wasn’t a birdie”. I loved all your photo’s today, especially Eko with a new stick…so darn helpful!
Keep warm Eko. I have the opposite problem, trying to stay cool while my humans turn the heating up!
You’re trying to confuse poor Eko – the box said vegetables! Enjoy those roasting fires 😀
That is a great fireplace! I can see why Eko likes it so much 🙂 I think we have one too, but mom and dad haven’t used it yet this year. It’s pretty gray and chilly today though — maybe I can talk them into it.
Great post! Eko you look like a firewood expert. Stay warm! Our daddy makes big fires for us to lie near in the winter too 🙂
