You don’t exactly need CSI to solve this case

And it is likely that the legs of some of your furniture have a familiar “custom” design:

Yes, Eko knows he isn’t supposed to eat this and yes, he is trying to eat it while I am holding it and looking right at him

I also suspect that many of you have received free “upgrades” for the interior of your car:

“Will, can you believe this car came installed with chew toys!?  Wait…what do you mean they aren’t chew toys…”

Put simply; pets eat money.  Both metaphorically, and in Eko’s case, literally:

I was upset that Eko ate five dollars, but he insisted I should be half as mad as I was because he really only ate $2.50

But as anyone with a pet will tell you, the marks our pets leave on our wallets pale in comparison to the marks they leave on our hearts!  I have also found that a good way to offset the misfortune and frustration of one of Eko’s indiscretions is to share the photographic results with friends and family for a good laugh.  If you have a funny story or photo of your pet using a non-sanctioned chew toy, be sure to share it in the comments – it’s therapeutic!

Comments for How Has Your Pet Left A Mark On Your Life?

  1. Oh dear 🙁 It’s the cats that do most damage in our house!

  2. CateF says:

My dog Belle like to eat the packages from the UPS man… before I even get home to take them inside! I have come home to all the clothes I ordered online spread across the front yard!

  3. Uh oh! I quite like getting post, but get a bit excited and accidentally chew it, so mummy and daddy had to get a post box put outside

  4. Aud says:

Have you tried ‘bitter apple spray/cream’? My lab when in his prime have done dumpster diving and chewed up all kinds of stuff, then unto furniture and such, a friend of ours told us about the bitter apple spray/cream, we’ve used it every where, lo and behold that did the trick. Eko is very frugal, he didn’t pick 10 or 20 to chew up, maybe he just doesn’t know the difference yet, so keep your 10’s &20’s tucked away.

  5. catchatcaren says:

this made me laugh. Mine are on Dakota’s blog…i have a chewed wall and he chewed through a brand new cell phone 2 yrs ago (I caught him right before he got to the battery)…I had no insurance on the phone and it cost me $300 to replace it 🙂

  6. Tiffany F. says:

We’ve lost about 6 pairs of shoes, a couple pairs of pants and t-shirts. We also now have a slightly damaged wine stand and partially eaten couch. At least we have lots of custom designed gear in our house!!

  7. We’ve been really lucky with Boomer and Dottie not chewing things however… there was this one time that the hubby and I ran outside and down the street (a neighbors house was on fire) and Dottie freaked out and shredded our couch cushions.

  8. Marcela says:

Lol. Loved it. My girlfriend and I had a really good laught at Eko’s “custom” design:)

  9. kdkh says:

I had a mastiff eat a book from the law school library. Her teeth were so large that the holes they left looked like bullet holes through a pretty thick book. The library made me pay for it, but just didn’t believe me when I said the dog ate it. She’d chew tin cans, and they looked like we’d shot them up with a rifle.

  10. Jorie says:

So true, Will. No matter what they eat, pee on, or puke on, we still love ’em at the end of the night. I hope I feel the same way toward my someday children…

  11. Boomdeeadda says:

LOL, Will you crack me upppppp. Pic 2 and caption..way way funny.
I don’t have any pictures because I was too spitting mad. But at our old house, I bought a retractable screen door for the side entry to our attached garage. I thought it be a nice way to get more fresh air into the house. After getting it half installed my husband said a part was missing in the box…so off to Home Depot to get part…back home, finish installing…perfection, yes lovely lovely breez………….BUDDY! Stopppppp Nooooooo. The Big Goof ran straight thru it, DAY 1 when he saw someone coming in the yard….He had screen and aluminum dragged all the way up our driveway. Let me just say, Mr B has a potty mouth.

  12. what a gifted designer ;o) Think I can learn a lot ;o)

  13. Victoria Coleman says:

Lets see 5 pairs of slippers, 6 area rugs (potty training two puppies simultaneously), 1 love seat that just broke in half when my newf jumped on it, 4 holes in the wall (where they found my patch jobs and removed them twice), no baseboard corners left in the living room, 1 bedroom door frame nicely nibbled, 1 new cocktail table that became a newfy bed (marvelous cool marble), 2 robes, several sweatshirt sleeves. lots of mail and kleenexes (Rig’s loves those) ….and i think my little pups are well trained! Would do it all over again to have them. They have eaten a lot but never eaten any cash – it could be because i never have any! ha ha

  14. dogdaz says:

Great post. With 7 animals currently at the dogdaz zoo, the damage adds up. But the love is worth it. And I agree with Animalcouriers, it is mostly our 5 cats that do the damage inside — the dogs…. well lets not get started on those holes in the yard.

  15. Jenny Marie says:

My boyfriend runs his own business and keeps lots of invoices/paperwork lying around. Here she is after helping him with a bit of shredding….. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8206/8225691591_fa8d6c919a_c.jpg

  16. Christine says:

My Champ wanted to get a head start on Black Friday shopping one night. He grabbed my wallet from the coffee table, chewed the corner of it. Then proceeded to enjoy the taste of my credit card and left lots of teeth marks.

The next day he tried to do the same thing. I guess he really wants to visit Santa Paws to let him know what he would like for Christmas or just wanted to get in of the shopping fun!

  17. onebluedog says:

Mom and dad tell me they are especially proud of me for never chewing things that are not mine. But I do have a habit of grabbing a shoe when I get to the bottom of the stairs. Not to chew, just to run around with. And I have been known to search the litter box for those yummy treats the kitties leave behind…

  18. I will spare you any photos of endless underwear destroyed. My first ridgeback would swallow them whole, and vomit them back up. Awkward with company. The second ridgie just ate the crotches, and that passed through. Nala – my current ridgeback – just fills them with holes. Nala discovered gardening towards the end of the season this year. Left to her own devices she now will harvest asparagus, apples, mulberries, tomatoes, kale, broccoli, beans, corn, and peppers. She has not yet noticed the root vegetables, but since she loves raw potatoes I know that will be next. She does eat Jerusalem artichokes that I dig out. Amazing gas afterwards…
When let off leash or even just passing by, she now raises for the garden to see what she can find.
In other people’s homes she finds hidden chocolates, bottles of oil or hand cream, anything edible even if it is on high shelves. She is a menace – but mostly just with food.

  19. Eleenie says:

Our new pup Bess chewed up a handheld fan from Malaysia that was a gift from my late dad. It was over 50 years old. I was gutted but I couldn’t be mad at her really, it was my own fault for leaving it lying around. Dogs will be dogs, I wouldn’t change her for the world!
