Our Christmas Tree And The Importance Of Planning Ahead

Despite his lack of opposable thumbs, Eko was instrumental in selecting and setting up our first Christmas tree as Chicago residents.  Last night we were finally ready to hang up the lights.  Before we began, I thought it best to map out the best path for the lights to go around the tree.  Luckily I had a patient helper who was up to the task.

The tree at Rockefeller Center has nothing on Eko!  And yes, that is a snow globe with a bear playing electric guitar on his head.  It’s the closest thing I own to an ornament

Eko and I agreed on the best path and then set to work.  We made a great team – I hung the lights and Eko made sure they didn’t get tangled.

It was a tough job, but Eko was up to the challenge

Things seemed to be going just swimmingly, but we quickly discovered a major flaw in our lighting plan.

“Will, I think we may be a few lights short.”

I’m not exactly the brightest bulb in the box, so for some reason I thought that buying only one string of lights would be enough to cover the whole tree.  And so our tree remains a work in progress.  The mission today is to find some lights and get this tree ready asap!  We could also use a few ornaments or a tree topper at the very least.  Anyone have any favorites?

Comments for Our Christmas Tree And The Importance Of Planning Ahead

  1. Eko has astounding control – it would be a recipe for disaster if we tried that with either of our two! Yup, a little more on the tree would be good 😉

  2. Eko must be a angel … oh what would I do with this lights ;o)

  3. Oh bless Eko! Can’t wait to see when it’s finished:-)

you two just kill me! You are hilarious! Eko has to be THE MOST patient dog I have EVER seen…..you two need to go on the road……literally…..the STAGE! We just love you both to pieces!

  5. Our tree is very simple, we have white lights and the ornaments are just some that we picked up at Target a year or two ago, they are silver and white. I think it makes for a cute tree that fits any decor! Good luck with your own!

  6. Marcela says:

Lol as always. With Eko as your helper, I think you are in good hands Will:)

  7. raisingdaisy says:

Eko sure is a good sport to let himself get wrapped up in lights! Daisy would give us that “are you serious?” look and run under the bed!

Some of my favorite ornaments are blown-glass colorful birds; DD’s are snowmen; DH doesn’t care as long as he doesn’t have to decorate the tree. 😉 And of course Daisy just wants treats. 🙂

  8. Carol says:

Ah bless him. The things dogs do in the name of love! Hope to see the pictures of him opening his presents!

  9. Gsdlover says:

I have a question and I dont know where else to ask lol, why wont the petcentric critter carols work? I clicked on the tools and games button and it took me to the main game page with critter carols right there. I tried clicking on it, but it took me to the same main page again. Anyone know why?

  10. Cindy says:

You are lucky Eko is such a saint and puts up with having lights wrapped around him and a light up snow globe on his head! Can’t wait to see the tree full of lights.

  11. Uncle Austin says:

    Three French toast
    Two turtlenecks
    And a beer in a tree. . .

  12. Boomdeeadda says:

Eko looks good all aglow, like an angel..
Anywho, here’s a little lightening tip. Plug them in to make sure they work BEFORE stringing on tree…EVEN new ones…lets just say it really puts a damper on the eggnog filled tree decorating party when you have to start over.

  13. Connie says:

All of our ornaments are from places we have been or have special meaning. Too bad you didnt think to pick some up along your travels. There are great animal ornaments out. We have 1 for every dog/cat we have had. They have them in every breed. Also a Notre Dame one. A tip – hang the ornaments on the upper part of the tree so Eko doesnt mistake them for hanging treats. Learned that one the hard way. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

  14. cathy says:

Eko is such a good helper. Santa would be proud! Favorite ornaments always included the homemade variety. You know. The ones made from empty toilet paper rolls, elbow macaroni, spray paint and glitter. Mice love those. Eko could design a garland made from crunchy milk bones.

  15. Eleenie says:

Oh how those lights make his eyes sparkle! Don’t worry about the light situation, I never get it right either, I seriously doubt mine will even work this year! This Christmas will be out pup Bessie’s first Christmas, she’s a chomper and I have a sneaky suspicion that some new decorations will be on the cards next year….

  16. onebluedog says:

What a good helper Eko is! I am very impressed! And I am taking notes so I can be a good helper when we get our tree this weekend 😀

I am really excited to see yours when it is all finished!

  17. Arleen Delgado says:

I have a magnet on my fridge that says, A do is the only animal on earth that will love you more than he loves himself. – Josh Billing.

Eko surely lives up to this as only a dog would love you enough to want to make you happy by making you laugh! My love to Eko!
