During winter months, my apartment is ruled by the Blanket Monster, but once he leaves the lair for a walk or adventure, trying to use blankets for warmth becomes quite impractical. Normally, when we head out for a walk Eko darts out the door, but I know it’s coat season when he grimaces and tiptoes his way out instead.
For those in the market for a coat for their dog, make sure you try it before you buy it! Last year, Eko had a full fashion show as we looked for the perfect coat.
This Burberry look was quite fashionable, but unfortunately the coat wasn’t very warm
We found a warmer coat, but it was too small
This Chilly Dog jacket was perfect for Eko. Warm, waterproof and no need to hassle with fitting his legs through any holes
Eko loves his coat and knows that any time I grab it he has a winter adventure waiting just outside the door. Unfortunately, my attempts to get Eko to appreciate the warmth of a indoor winter sweater have not gone as well.
“Will, you have got to be joking…”
You know that face kids make when, against their will, their mom puts them in a sweater? Turns out that dogs can make that face too!
“I am the Blanket Monster! No sweater can hold me!”
Oh well, maybe he’ll grow into it? I used to hate sweaters too. Anyone out there have any other winter gear that their pup likes?
Aww, Eko looks so stylish in that sweater…maybe he’s not liking the color, he looks more like a blue or green sweater goggie.
Love your blog!!!! =D
A sweater? Blankies rule, eh Eko?
I can understand Eko’s resistance to sweaters…I mean really. But as far as recommendations; my guys are well fur coated (sorry Eko), but recently Max was traveling with me and staying in the SUV more than I planned, the temperature dropped a lot and he was getting chilled. I ended up getting him a calf warmer/blanket-I’m in farm country. It was the only coat I found that really had gusto and it fit him. He appreciated it.
Yes, Eko looks most unimpressed with his sweater…he cuts a dashing figure in his outdoor jacket…not much use for cold weather gear here…Gizmo has only one sweater I crocheted for him and he gets to wear it only once or twice a year
I think Eko looks lovely in his sweater. Maybe it’s the colour he’s not keen on. It is rather dull for a dashing dog like Eko!
Will: When we were kids, your Gram would tell your Dad and me, Im cold go put a sweater on. Hence a sweater was defined as something you wore when your Mom was cold.
I have a sweater for Dottie but she absolutely hates it. In all honesty she really doesn’t need it with all of her fur but she looks so cute!
Hopefully Eko will grow to like his sweaters as much as his coat b/c he’s so cute in them!
Eko is so fashionable in his jackets. How about the booties to protect his paws from the salt
Get him some booties to protect his paws from the salt 🙂
I’m glad I’ve never had a dog that needed to wear clothes to keep warm. But Eko sure looks cute in his.
As a fluffy dog owner I am always jealous of people who get to turn their dogs into fashionistas when the cold weather hits. Eko’s Chilly Dog jacket makes him look extra handsome. =)
We lived in the country and of course no one’s dog wore winter coats, too butch. But now that we’re downtown, every second dog is just a squirt of a thing…I saw someone with two pugs in matching downfilled coats a few days ago..like the puffy ones with squares and a hood with fur…very chic.
Maybe he should try a poncho instead??
Looks like another post I’m going to have to pass along to my co-workers out of pure cuteness of Eko… 🙂
Mom said she would wear the first coat by herself – could look interesting, I think… It’s not easy to find good coats for large sized dogs ;o) Eko looks great in this chilly dog jacket ;o)
Eko has more coats than I do, and he looks way cooler than me on a knitted coat.
Steffi would live in her coat if we let her. Shes quite fashionable in the back yard as she prances around. No booties though. Tried when she was a puppy and she couldnt stand them.
Hey Will, try these. http://k9apparel.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=130_118&products_id=2648
Arri is not into sweaters either, but she absolutely loves her pink ski jacket and her beige “fashionable” winter coat. She has no idea why her parents thought Denver would be a good place to go for a month :)! Brrrrr…
Eko, you should really embrace the magic of the sweater. I mean, it is a blanket you can take with you…everywhere! Like your nice warm coat, but softer and cozier! I admit I also tried to eat my first sweater, but that was before I realized it’s true wonder. Now I am a true sweater convert.
Bella: Oooo…la la! I love the Burberry print coat!
DiDi: Go with a sweater. It is tougher and easier to run in.
Which chilly dog jacket is this?
