In life, our friends and family often talk us into doing things we hadn’t planned on doing. Whether we are glad we get talked into these things is an entirely different matter. However, those of us with pets know that you don’t always need language to “talk” someone into doing something. Pets are masters of looks, nudges and exasperated sighs that perfectly get the message across. Here’s a classic example from Eko last night.
After a balmy few days, the temperature dropped in Chicago. Eko was looking to get toasty so his first move was to sprawl out by the woodpile and look at it longingly
Normally, Eko is content to snuggle up with some blankets on the couch, but he quickly shrugged them off. Eko know my attention was on the TV, so he put his big head right in the way and took turns staring at me and the fireplace
In a final act of desperation Eko flopped down in front of the fire place and began to paw at it. He made a pretty convincing case, or maybe he’s just a good actor, but either way I knew exactly what I needed to do
Basking in the warm light of success
Bossing humans around is tough work
Eko didn’t use a single word or even a single sound, but he got just what he wanted! Anyone else get “talked” into doing things by their pets, or am I just a total sucker? Probably both.
Oh yeah, Daisy does this all the time too! Dogs are absolutely masters of silent communication. PS- I love that last photo – so precious! 🙂
They are soooo good at it, cunning beasts.
Eko looks so innocent in all those pics.
We all are suckers when it comes to what our pets want…they communicate very well. Mine push theie food bowls around when they want to get fed!!
this was the most PRECIOUS post EVER! Eko’s expression is to die for. What a smart dog! Dakota goes through an entire routine of staring at me every day after dinner. He will alternate between “sitting pretty” and staring in order to get his daily bone
Yes you’re a sucker, but then aren’t all of us that love our dogs! Gorgeous pics of Eko.
That’s adorable! What a smart dog Eko is.
Eko is one smart and adorable dog! My cat likes to play “chase the string” every night around 10. If I don’t play with him, he starts doing naughty things to get my attention. He knows within about 15 minutes every night when he should be played with… I am well-trained!
That is absolutely wonderful…Eko clearly speaks “hoomin” fluently:) So if Gizmo can convince me that it’s late and way past breakfast when it’s only 4 AM does that count?
It is amazing how our dogs learn to manipulate us to do what they want. My husband usually gets suckered into giving out treats every time with a head tilt.

Hahaha, Eko is amazing at body language. The paw on the fireplace! I know my parents’ dog Bodie could teach a course on how to get a bedtime petting by positioning yourself on your human’s bed, on the floor, and finally, sitting on them until they acquiesce.
They are clever, Petals is the queen of manipulation…she will sit and stare at me for 15 minutes until I can’t take it anymore…she wants a Wiskas treat and usually gets one…not a word, but yes she knows if she sits there long enough, I’ll crack.
I have nominated you for The Very Inspiring Blogger Award. Please follow the link below for the rules http://tipprblog.com/2013/01/14/blog-awards/
Ha! I have The Help just where I want her!!
Sounds like Eko has been teaching my Buddy behind my back?
Buddy will grab my hand if I am not scratching him in the right spot. Buddy will then place it where he wants it. Due to Buddies long neck he is able to place my hand any where on his body.
Oh yeah, Buddy grabbed my hand to help him type this to. Buddy spells better then I do?
Thanks Eko !

Think then I’m “both” too … btw: be careful with your paws and the fireplace, Eko ;o)
Oh Eko, so clever!
Dogs are masters of unspoken communication!
Boomer and Dottie “talk” to us all the time. Boomer is king of getting shoes out of our closets and stacking food bowls in front of us when he wants to play while Dottie will get in your face and put her paw on your leg and stare at you until you pet her.
Eko is one clever pup! And persuasive too 🙂 He sure looks content after finally getting his fire!
My mom and dad do not let me talk them into much, but when they do they try to make it seem like it was their idea. Of course, I know better 😉
