Eko’s Favorite Modern Convenience

It’s no secret that Eko is obsessed with our fire place.  If I make a move for the wood pile Eko’s tail starts wagging as he hops on the couch to snag prime fireside position. When the fire is roaring, Eko’s usual likes/wants become insignificant.

When the fire is roaring, Eko’s usual likes/wants become insignificant.  He loves walks, but Eko will moan and groan if I try to take him on one while the fire is going

Like dog treats, fires at my apartment are for special occasions.  If it was up to Eko, every minute of every day would be considered a special occasion, but alas, that is not the case.  However, Eko has discovered a modern convenience that is almost as good as a fire.  A few months ago I bought a space heater for our little corner of the room.  As it turns out I also unknowingly purchased the new love of Eko’s life.

If I have the heater facing the desk, Eko will nudge me until he can get his share of the warmth.  He will get as close as physically possible to the heater

To see just how committed Eko is to being in front of the heater, I set it to oscillate back and forth.  The result was instant hilarity.

Eko scooted forward and followed the heater to the right…

And all the way back to the left

And it just keeps getting better.  If I slowly pull the heater a bit further away from the couch than Eko would like…

He will drag himself off the couch and sleep halfway standing up just so he can be a few precious inches closer to his beloved

Life sure is tough for a modern urban pup!

It’s funny to think about all the modern inventions our pets have acclimated themselves to – cars, TVs, elevators, space heaters, the list goes on and on.  Does your pet have a favorite modern convenience?

I know those Ridgebacks are a bit like cats when it comes to being warm, lying in the sun, etc. My cat Bert is in love with our fireplace and will follow mom around meowing until she turns it on and then he lies there and bakes until he is way more than well done.

  2. catchatcaren says:

this is just the sweetest ever! He is too precious. Your fireplace is beyond gorgeous.

  3. onebluedog says:

So this is what true love looks like 🙂

  4. kdkh says:

In the summer, we have a dog who sleeps on the air conditioning vent. Her love does not appear to rise to Eko’s level, though.

  5. LuAnn says:

I have never seen a dog do that! Tooo funny! 🙂

  6. Gizmo says:

I’ve got exactly the same model space heater and usually have it set up to heat the area of my desk…When it’s on Gizmo parks himself under the desk to take advantage of the warmth…In the car he parks himself on the console between the front seats so he can take best advantage of the AC…He’s no fool and neither is Eko

  7. Zena says:

Television! Zac loved it and watched anything. Zena loves watching dog shows – Raffles hasn’t been able to focus on it yet.

  8. Mustang.Koji says:

Eko is now human for sure!

  9. Oh bless him, love the way he creeps forward to get closer to it:-)

  10. I’m a fan of the fireplace too and MY place is always in front or under a heater… btw: the smell of braising dog hairs is awful ;o)

I thought this was a nice Friday post. My dog, Derby, is the same way at home, even refusing to let me sleep until she is tucked in, securely, under the covers. Do any of you have pets at home like this??

Lol. Ok, Eko is not only handsome, but smart as well. What a combo:) Alex, when I turn a portable heater, glues herself to it. I have to make her move away a little bit, and she does it, but I am sure she’s thinking, “why mom, why?”

  13. Boomdeeadda says:

Eko I have the exact opposite problem, it was -6 yesterday and I was standing outside to cool off..HA. Blossum is in love with a register near our dining room table. She heads over there when the heat comes on and stands or lays on it. I guess she likes the warm air on her tummy..HA.

  14. Kate says:

    I’d give Eko’s dog-to-human communication skills an A+.

  15. Chopper's mom says:

Eko and his heater sure make a cute couple! Chopper favorite modern ammenity is the microwave for sure. Ours plays a little tune when it’s done. Chopper can hear it in a dead sleep. Or if we might have forgotten to get the food out of it he reminds us. Plus he prefers we take the chill off his homemadefood before eating. So pampered.

  16. Jessica says:

Love the photos of Eko with HIS love! I’m so jealous of your fireplace! It reminds me of my childhood…before I moved away to a second-story apartment. 🙁
The modern convenience Taylor is most attached to is the cell phone! Every time a phone rings (whether it’s Jeremy’s or mine) her ears perk up and then she drops whatever she is doing (which could include sleeping) so she could stare at whomever is holding the phone. Maybe she thinks that a human friend of hers is on the other line…someone that will soon be at the door to pay a visit!

  17. writetowag says:

Now that is too funny!!!! BOL!!!! Eko…you poor poor puppy!!!! What a great blog post today, the pics were perfect…Will, I know I don’t have to tell you, but your Eko is one great doggie!!!!

  18. OMG, Eko is a nut. My dogs adore sunbathing (indoors and out) but don’t seem to be that crazy about blankets or space heaters. Maybe Eko needs a heatlamp suspended over the couch! 😉
