Should all the world’s clocks fail, never to be repaired, I would still wake up at the same time every day.  A time I like to call “Eko’s hungry o’clock.”  People make a big deal out of Daylight Savings, but in this apartment Eko’s stomach is the only clock that counts.  In the fall we were told that we would get an extra hour of sleep!  But it was not so for those of us with pets.

Daylight Savings? That’s nice, I’m hungry now

Yesterday’s time change also caused a few issues.  While Eko certainly didn’t mind being fed an hour earlier than expected, he assumed it meant that he got to double dip.  Dinner for Eko is normally at 6:00 pm, so yesterday after eating dinner #1 at what his stomach thought was 5:00 pm, Eko thought he was entitled to dinner #2 an hour later.  He patiently sat by his bowl for about five minutes before sulking back to the couch.  The good news however is that the change in time means we will have more light for adventures.  And there is nothing Eko loves more than romping in the sun.

Smiling because brighter days are on the way!

Were any of your pets thrown off by the change?

funny you mentioned “double dip” my cat, (Cody) was the one who expected a SECOND snack when he received his 11pm “snack” at 10pm….he marched back in at the OLD 11pm…..I told him he was out of luck!

  2. Such a gorgeous smile. Glad we don’t have to deal with time changes here in South Africa. My dog would be fine but the cats would all behave exactly like Eko.

  3. Delft says:

You mean, just because you give Eko an extra little something at 5:00, you are expecting him to miss dinner at 6:00?
Now that sounds quite unreasonable to me: am I right, Eko?

  4. emma says:

Us dogs have no issues with the time change but the cats don’t handle it well. Spring is easy but in the fall, they are up at the usual time waking us all up for their food – cats! Not sure why we have to have cats anyway???

  5. I think the pups were surprised to get their dinner early but didn’t want to wake up as early this morning for their breakfast.

  6. We aren’t there yet but completely understand Eko’s discombobulation. After many years of experimentation, we’ve worked out that the smallest amount of grief is produced if you gradually introduce the change. 10 minutes a day of change seems to cause less backchat than a sudden switch 😉

Isn’t this the truth. Our Lab isn’t affected, but we have other friends who have told us many stories! Beautiful guy, your Eko!

  8. Mustang.Koji says:

Never mind our dogs timetable expectations… Us humans are hurting big time. 🙂

  9. Ours change at the end of the month – could be interesting!

We are lucky, Chick just wakes up when we do. Sometimes I even have to pull her out of bed for her walk during the week. Growing up though, my family dog Frasier would get up at 2 or 3 in the morning to go out or to beg for a treat, but I would just open the bedroom door and make my dad take care of it 🙂

  11. dogdaz says:

Slept late today but wanted dinner early. Lol

  12. Boomdeeadda says:

That’s such a fun picture in bed. HA, good morning! pant pant….love it.

I don’t know about the cats, but I got all messed up…I got up at the crack of 10…missed most of the morning…didn’t finish breakfast till 11am and didn’t get dressed till noon…..thankfully no one popped in..LOL

  13. onebluedog says:

Oh, that is a such a great picture of Eko smiling! I feel just the same way about longer days 🙂

And, lucky for mom and dad, I am used to eating my food as treats all during the day, so I didn’t give them too hard a time about being off schedule.

  14. My dog freaks out in the morning and begs me to get out of bed to feed him— if I stir at all— he runs around like a crazy dog! My mornings would be so sad without him!
Eko is so flipping cute!!! I’d let him double dip! 🙂

  15. We always live with the atomic clock in my 7 stomachs :o) The last picture of you is just great!!!

  16. Whee always make sure our hoomans know when it is breakfast time by squeaking and wheeking as loud as whee can. Sometimes it isnt breakfast time and they feed us anyway just to make us be quiet!

Lol. Eko is so smart. Dogs are so much more smart and uncomplicated than we humans, don’t you think?

  18. Chopper's mom says:

Great photos Will! Hungry o’clock LOL! That’s a great description. We have lucked out w/ Chopper, he is such a snuggler that he doesn’t wake us for breakfast. But if your getting up to go to the bathroom, he wants to go out, even @ 3am! He does how ever, literally sing for his supper, if not delivered promptly by 5pm.

  19. Eleenie says:

I love the way Eko thought he should be fed twice 😉
