“Oh, the horror!”

I used to think that there were grooming products that were the “best” but I realized that there is no one-size-fits-all “best” product in any category.  Instead it is up to each of us to figure out which products are “best for my dogs.”  Many of the products I use were purchased on recommendations from friends, so I thought I would pay it forward and share a few of the products I think work best for Eko.

Brushing Eko to his best is a two-step job.  The Kong Zoom Groom (in addition to withstanding a few attacks from Eko) is great at loosening hair and the Furminator acts as a rake to remove that loose hair.  The Zoom Groom is also great to suds up Eko during bath time

Eko has climbed mountains and crossed deserts, but the streets of Chicago are tougher on his paws than anything else.  To heal/treat pad injuries I like FuzzYard paw balm.  And one reader recently recommended Musher’s Secret (Thanks Stephen!) as a way to help protect Eko’s paws on our urban adventures.  It’s easy to apply and a great way to make sure Eko’s paws stay healthy

I like Earthbath shampoo because it is gentle on Eko’s coat.  The Andis nail grinder scared Eko as a puppy, but I’m glad I took the time to acclimate him to it because it now provides for painless nail trimmings.  And as you can see, Eko can’t resist the taste of his toothpaste, so Petrodex makes teeth cleaning a cinch

Finding each of the above products involved a lot of trial and error, but it was worth the effort to find products that help Eko look and feel his best.  As I mentioned, many of these products were recommended by friends, so if you have any grooming products/recommendations be sure to let me know.  Thanks!

I have a few (but am embarrassed to say I don’t know their names offhand and I am too lazy to go and look lol)….I think much of it too depends on the fur length of the dog and what activities they take part in. Dakota could NEVER use that one brush that you showed because his fur is soooooo THICK!!! When I comb him I could make a sweater from his fur lol

I don’t take a real bath too often so I don’t have a favorite shampoo, we usually leave the big bath for the groomer, mom does more of a quick rinse. I have wired hair, so I have a special brush for that and my sister has different brushes for her 2 tons of fluff that is always shedding off, we use nail clippers and of course, brush our teeth with Drs Foster and Smith toothpaste every night before bed. Every pup is different but you never know when I tip that you could use might just pop up in a blog!

  3. I use a curry comb type brush on the dogs and follow it up with a rake like brush before the bath and after. And, we always use an oatmeal based shampoo because it’s gentle on their skin. As for nail trims, it’s a battle, an absolute battle but it wasn’t always like this, something has happened that I’m unaware of.

  4. Eko looks about as impressed with having a bath as our boys do 😆 We use Greenfields unscented puppy shampoo on both JRTs – I can’t stand anything too overpowering perfume-wise and the boys say they don’t want to smell of anything but Terrier! Popper has sensitive skin so we try to bath her as little as we can get away with. She has a Mikki rubber grooming mitt to get rid of the vast quantities of hair she sheds, one side gets the fur out and the other polishes up her coat. The boys have a brush a bit like the Furminator. I’m afraid that our boys aren’t as good as Eko at having their teeth cleaned, and we’ve given up doing that at home. Putney also has to go to the vets’ to have his nails clipped as he gets in a total tizz about it if we try and do it ourselves – but then he loves going to the vets’ so it may just be part of his cunning plan to visit there more frequently!

So that’s why Eko always looks so handsome! 😀

Mom likes that Kong guy too…well, actually she uses a similar thing that is actually for horses called a curry comb, But they are really the same thing 🙂 And for bath time (which I would rather go without) mom uses a special shampoo for allergies called Douxo. And then I get some oatmeal conditioner. Plus some moisturizing spray after. Maybe mom should spend this much time on her own grooming? 😉

  6. Well we can see that all those grooming products work because Eko always look well groomed and most handsome!! Hugs and nose kisses

  7. The products obviously work as Eko always looks so handsome:-)

Lol. Eko does not look happy with a bath. Poor baby. I like Petrodex. It kept Alex’s teeth and breath fresh. I am currently using a toothpaste from Arm and Hammer, but once I finish it I’ll try something different because my girlfriend says that Alex’s mouth, after brushing, smells like tuna:) I am so glad you groom Eko so well.

Love Earthbath! I like to use their puppy wipes on Chicklet after walks to keep her feet clean and the apartment clean too. They’re also good for wiping away eye crust!

“oh the horror” LOL. We tried to bath Buddy once….he was extremely unprofessional. We just let him dip in the lake whenever he had the notion.

  11. Oh poor Eko … where is the Baywatch Patrol ? We always use milking grease for the paws, because half of it lands in my stomachs :o)

  12. Hi there would you mind letting me know which web host you are working with?
I’ve loaded your web site in 2 completely different internet browsers and I will say this blog loads a lot faster then others. Can you suggest a good web hosting company at a honest price? Thank you, I appreciate it! Please also excuse if my english is not good enough.
