Has Eko Met His Match?

He has scaled mountains, surfed the Pacific and lived a life of swashbuckling adventure, but today Eko may have met his match.

Everything is a dog toy if Eko can get it

One of these is not a dog toy…

As a number of people guessed, Eko met his first baby today.  Emily’s sister, Molly, is in town with her six-month old daughter, Cecilia.  I put the camera away during introductions because I wanted to make sure everything went smoothly.

Before Ceci got a chance to see Eko, he introduced himself by sniffing and licking her feet.  Ceci began to smile, but when she looked down and saw Eko she immediately burst into tears!  Confused, Eko then started to whine and cry as well.  It was quite a scene.  Luckily the relationship quickly developed.  Ceci went from fearful to cautious to interested fairly quickly.  And once the initial novelty/jealousy wore off Eko calmed down significantly.

It is a beautiful day here in Chicago, so we decided to walk the two babies to the park.

If Ceci thought Eko was big, she got the surprise of the lifetime when we stopped at the zoo

Big puppy

Eko and I waited outside, but we still were close enough to take in the view.  In terms of size, I realized that Ceci walking into an apartment and seeing Eko is about the same as me walking into an apartment and seeing a rhino

Ceci hit the hay while Eko kept an eye on her with the latest in baby monitor technology

Despite some early apprehensions, it seems like Eko and Ceci are getting along just fine.  Ceci will be around all week, so I hope to use this time to teach Eko to be even more calm and well-mannered around infants.  Unfortunately my idea to buy a saddle for Eko and teach Ceci how to ride him was shot down, but nevertheless, it should be a fun week!

Ummm…can I say, “typical human male response”! Saddling Eko, really?! No wonder that suggestion was shot down!

  3. catchatcaren says:

lol!!! I knew it! Can’t wait for further updates!

  4. Aw… they made each other cry? I’m glad they were able to move past that! I’m sure in no time they will love each other.

  5. Ingrid says:

Very cute post. We had our first Brittany Spaniel, Dallas, before our son was born. She wasn’t too sure about that thing that kept making noise (crying), but once the cheerios fell on the floor Dallas and son became best buds. Have fun!

  6. emma says:

People with babies always want to saddle up my sister and put the baby on her back, so you are not alone Eko. I am sure you will be great with mini humans, they usually like us dogs!

  7. Sage says:

It’s quite a trip watching dog and baby getting to know each other. We got to the kissing stage the last time out gdaughter was here.

  8. onebluedog says:

Good job Eko!! Another good thing about babies is that they usually drop lots of foods on the floor 😀

  9. Jorie says:

Hahaha I love the rhino comparison. I’ve never thought of how massive dogs must seem to babies! Eko seems like such a gentle giant 🙂

It’s good that Eko gets to know Ceci now, they could be great friends as they both get older.

  14. I think he is a perfect Nanny …. wish I had such a cool babysitter as I was a child… I had only “Mrs. Horsehead” … the sister of Cruella :o)

Awwww, Eko kisses on the toes….sounds cute. Glad they are fast pals. I can’t believe the monitors now….cool. I don’t know why they didn’t buy the saddle idea, that doesn’t sound the least bit dangerous 😉
