The Once And Forever Puppy

And here’s Eko, the deluxe-size solar panel, a couple weeks ago

Unfortunately, we haven’t had much sun around these parts since the above photo was taken.  Chicago hasn’t quite figured out how to shake off winter – it’s been cold and/or gray for a while now and Eko is less than pleased.

Eko was on the couch so long that I think he started to melt into it.  Can you find his fourth leg??

Eko had a bath only a few days ago, so this morning I was not eager to bring him out for a muddy run.  In retrospect, I would have brought him since he decided to demonstrate another puppy habit while I was out.

Eko’s logic: There’s been no sun, so clearly Will has no need for sunglasses

Was Eko bored? Upset? I don’t know for sure.  I just know that he stole my sunglasses from the same place he left them untouched for over a year.  I lose my cool sometimes, so I can’t fault Eko too much for the same (although I did have a few choice words when I discovered my mangled glasses).  However, I can put my next pair of sunglasses in a new place just to be safe.  I love my forever-puppy, but today was a nice reminder that there are some puppy habits I am glad are mostly behind us!

the fourth leg is under the blanket?

  2. nerdgrl (Kim S.) says:

Steffi’s certainly a forever puppy; she went through a destructo dog phase about a year ago (when she was 12) that had us so confused…was she bored? hurting? angry? then it went away. Most of the time we just shrug and enjoy her antics.

  3. emma says:

My sister is almost 11 and mom loves it when she has those puppy moments and acts like a 6 month old. It makes mom smile. As for the glasses…well, remember the jelly bean incident…6 years of Easter and I never touched them and then all of the sudden I ate almost the entire bowl. I don’t know why, I’m sure Eko doesn’t know why he ate the glasses either…it’s what us dogs do to keep our humans guessing 😉

    1. Victoria says:

yes – so understand – Rigby will for no reason rip up a bill laying on the counter (sure the company understands when i call and say my dog ate my bill) which he used to do as a puppy if you left him alone but did today when he wasn’t alone so it was perhaps just a quirkly little mood he was in, Muffin will nibble the blankets i put on the couch (to protect the couch) -she did it as a puppy and was quite destructive but now she just quietly mouths them and does no damage and i think she does it every once in awhile to remind me that she can do it.

  4. Oops. Perhaps Eko knows that they were going out of fashion?

  5. Tiffany F. says:

I think the bad weather brings out the worst habits in our dogs! We had about a full week of rain and Tonto destroyed one of my pairs of shoes… something he hasn’t done in almost a year!

  6. Paws To Talk says:

    Will,

We know how Eko feels. It was rainy, cold and sunless for 5 days here. We were going crazy being inside. Sometimes a dog just can’t help him or her self.

Thank goodness the sun is out and it is “open door” season again. We hope the sun is out in your yard again.

  7. Steven/Buddy says:

Will you have a Eko original pair of sunglasses now, one of a kind, priceless! Eko just customized your sunglasses to suit his style?
I have a lot of one of a kind clothes and shoes from my dogs when they were pups to.
One day you will look back and remember when Eko did it and other things that happened at that time.

  8. Think of the smell of glasses! you wear them in the sun and you sweat and leave that Will smell on them. They are one of the most chewed up items because of the smell. Pixie has eaten quite a few of my hubby’s store bought readers. Good thing we can buy them at the dollar store because my hubby cannot remember to put them in a safe place.

  9. Zena says:

He doesn’t have a fourth leg – that much is clear! And I think he was merely adapting the sunglasses for you – no sun, no lenses. He was being thoughtful!

  10. gavmomof2 says:

Poor guy, I felt like that until a couple of weeks ago – cabin fever! My min pin stole my slipper! Guess he thought I wouldn’t notice because I had one!

  11. Misaki says:

I think Eko did a fab job on your sunglasses 🙂

  12. Ouch!
    Are those Oakley?
Doggy ate mine when I decided not to take him out one morning too, I was hurt lol
It’s funny how some things never change, they grow up but some behaviors are still the same.

  13. Jorie says:

Those puppy habits seem to linger sometimes, don’t they?! Eko sure would make a cute pirate for Halloween this year. He rocks that one-eye-covered look.

  14. this sunglasses are brilliant – you are up to date for all seasons and every weather. And you look pretty cool! Like Jack Sparrow and Sir Elton John together – I will crafting such a hot piece for me too!

  15. onebluedog says:

Well, Eko can’t be perfect all the time…and, really, how can you be sure he is the one that chewed your glasses? 😉

  16. Sherrell fick says:

So true, so true . Everyone needs a little bit of puppy antics once in a while.

  17. Boomdeeadda says:

Say what? They look just fine Will, “whatcha talkin’ about?”
