With flash flood warnings in effect, last night was perfect for staying indoors

Last night I sat on the couch – warm, dry and content.  At least I was warm, dry and content until I heard the alarm sound and was called to arms as a member of the Night Watch.

My alarm sound is Eko sitting and whining that he wants to go outside

In every home with a dog, there is at least one member of the Night Watch.  The person who takes the dog out at night no matter what.  Rain, snow, alien invasion, it doesn’t matter – the dog still needs to go out!

Of course, Eko’s favorite tree is down the block across the street, so there is no hiding from the elements for us

From my conversations with fellow members of the Night Watch I have found that we generally have the same uniform – a rain jacket, old boots/sandals and some beat up clothes we can leave by the door when we return from the field.

Nighttime rainy scenes are nowhere near as romantic as Hollywood would lead you to believe

The Night Watch is not a noble job, but it is a necessary one.  We do our duty so that our pets may do theirs.  So today I would like to salute members of the Night Watch the world over – your work is appreciated!
