How Does Your Pet Show They’re Happy?

The more time you spend with your pet the more you begin to notice the subtleties of their personality.   Just like us, their moods vary from day to day, depending on circumstance.  After a couple rainy days I can always tell when Eko is bored and restless. So it makes it that much sweeter when the sun breaks through the clouds and I can see how just how happy it makes Eko.

Soaking up the sun

Not all trips to the dog beach are created equal.  On overcast days when the beach is empty Eko will sometimes do little more than trot around.  But on nice days there is no slowing him down.  Check out this series of photos of Eko and a lab running as near mirror images of each other.

On beautiful summer days Eko’s tail wags faster and his smile stretches from ear to ear but my favorite thing about when Eko is happy is that gravity just seems to get weaker.  It almost looks like Eko is bounding on the moon.

On sunny days Eko doesn’t care if he’s the only dog at the beach.  He is perfectly happy to bound up and down the waterline

And on nice days the cameraman has to have quick feet…

Because Eko is looking to share his happiness with flying hugs!

We’re stuck in the middle of flash floods and thunderstorms here, but I know that on the other side of the rain will be one happy pup! When your pet is in a great mood how do they show you they’re happy?

Will, these are great pictures, you did good. Eko is one happy pooch, FOR SURE!! Loved the last pic of him…

  2. Fabulous and fun photos! Well Shelties have perpetual “smiles” so Dakota is smiling every day! When he is particularly happy he prances 🙂

  3. Emmadog says:

Eko still has a bit of that uncoordinated puppy look, which is super cute! I wag my tail like crazy. Mom says she is afraid that someday it will just fall off from all my wagging. I am a dog that is happy 99.9% of the time. My sister is more up and down, but not me 🙂

  4. Victoria says:

you have one of the happiest pups around – love the flying hugs – have been taken out by those a few times myself – nothing funnier!

  5. Eko really is a happy guy!

I know Boomer and Dottie are happy because I swear they smile. And, they have this way of wagging their whole bodies… not just their tails!

  6. Steven/Buddy says:

    Will great pictures of Eko.
Well when Buddy is really happy, he has a big smile and his tongue will hang out of his mouth on tbe left or right.
Then there is a tickle game I play with Buddy at night in bed, and I swear to god, it looks like he is laughing ? His smile gets bigger and just looks different, like he is laughing ? When I stop tickling him the smile is as it always is ? I been wanting to look up if a dog laughs or is a dog ticklish, but never have, so since we have the same flash flood warning here and have some time on my hands, I will look into this.
Will do you ever notice: Eko ever laughing ?
Thanks as always for a great blog , pictures and sharing yours and Eko’s world with all of us ! 🙂

Those are such great pictures! They really make me want to run and play 🙂

I think I am a lot like Eko when it comes to feeling extra happy. I love to leap in the air and bounce like a jumping bean…even though I am not allowed to be so wild right now. But that doesn’t mean I don’t try 😉

  8. writetowag says:

After Trev gets his bities, plays ball or after one of us arrives from a long day, Trev buries his head in our arms and gives little nibbles on our arms or legs and tons and tons of kisses…He also has a way of saying thank you with his eyes…He knows he is one loved pup!!!! Hugs to you Eko!!!!

  9. I wag my tail real fast, jump up and down, run in circles, run through the house or around the yard. Mumsy loves that last picture! Hugs and nose kisses Chancy

  10. Brilliant pictures!!!

  11. Boomdeeadda says:

I can see how happy Eko is and will try and emulate that joy today. Thanks for sharing your fab photo’s will, they just make me smile. Sorry to hear about your weather. We’ve been drenched up here too. Southern Alberta is a disaster area. But the sun is out today, so carpe diem.

  12. Clowie says:

Flying hugs – ha, ha, a challenge to stay on your feet!

  13. Misaki says:

    Those are fab action shots!

  14. Great shots, Will!! I love, love the last one : ) Been thinking of putting some dogs in some paintings of the beach… we’ll see. You inspire me!

  15. These photos made my day, especially the first one and the one of Eko jumping. How DO you do it??!!!
