“Lap Dog” Is Not A Size, It Is A State Of Mind

I met a friend of a friend last weekend who overheard our mutual friend talking to me about Eko. He told me that his family has a lap dog and then asked what kind of dog Eko is.  I told him the truth, “Eko is a lap dog too.”

It all started when Eko was a pup and could fit perfectly in your lap.  Here he is with my older brother

The first time Emily’s mom met Eko he was a lap dog, but by the second time she saw him Eko was more of a lap+torso dog

Sure, Eko grew to be nearly as big as Emily, but he didn’t think that disqualified him from lap-dog status

While I’m sure Eko dreams of hopping up into visitors’ laps, he has invented a move where he will back into people, put his butt in their lap and then support his weight with his two front legs.  I admire his creativity.  And when I’m on the couch, Eko knows that he can fully let his inner lap-dog out.

Just like old times!

Sure he’s not your typical lap dog, but I think Eko fits  perfectly

Just another reminder from Eko that if you put your mind to it, there’s almost nothing you can’t accomplish.  Anyone else have a pet who frequently “forgets” what size they are?

My mastiffs always thought they were the size of puppies and got very upset to discover that they were too big to fit under the bed (or in it with us) any more. They couldn’t understand why the furniture shrunk!

  2. I’m a lap dog. As I was a puppy I was on dad’s lap while he was eating. I think it’s a nice ritual and I do it till this day :o)

  3. Aud says:

What makes a dog (large or small) a lap dog? It is their person’s affection, caring and love that makes them wanting to get as close as possible with their person!!

  4. Aud says:

Don’t you just wish they can stay that small forever?

  5. Emmadog says:

Myself, I am a snuggler and I am often seen squeezing into cat beds but my 80 lb sister is a total lap dog! She does that slide the butt onto the couch move too. Nothing wrong with having a smaller perception of yourself 🙂 Go Eko!

  6. that is just too precious! Dakota has to literally stand on my chest (not fun having 25 lbs on your chest!) to kiss me when I am lying down so I totally “get it!”

I guess having Eko continue to think he’s a lap-dog is the same for our mommy who only has 2 laps and 5 lap-dogs… it’s hard when she also only has 2 hands and 5 pups to give belly rubs too. even if she uses her feet, she’s still one limb short.

When we have visitors I like to walk across them on the sofa and say hello to them all and give them a wash etc:-) Sometimes I get told I’m too heavy, but I tend to ignore that BOL

Eko! We love your puppy pics!! I’m not much of a lap sitter, but have been known to cuddle once in a while. 🙂

  12. What heart-warming pictures, Will. You and Emily both have beautiful smiles. I walk with my friend Karen and her dog Dylan once a week. He’s always excited to see me, and crawls into my lap in the front seat of her car. He too thinks he’s a lap dog and I’m always happy to oblige. It’s nice to be adored by a pooch.

Six of them! All different sizes! 🙂

I bought a chaise just so Chloe and I could share. She’ll lay at the end in between my legs, though a few times a day she’ll sit up, lean back and snuggle in for tummy rubs.

  15. Tiffany F. says:

You and your brother look so much alike!

  16. LOL, four of them 😉 You can see two of them here http://mistyshoreschesapeakes.wordpress.com/2012/03/14/wordless-wednesday-lap-dogs/

I love the photos but especially those of Eko as a baby, what a cutie 🙂
