After a beautiful weekend at a friend’s wedding, I spent all day Sunday traveling back to Chicago.  I’m always exhausted after a vacation and feel like I need at least a day of vacation from vacation in order to charge my batteries.  Turns out that feeling is not unique to humans because when I picked Eko up on Sunday night I could tell that he was absolutely whipped from his weekend with Riley. We both trudged up the stairs to the apartment and Eko flopped immediately on to the floor while I sank into the couch.  Eventually we both managed to drag ourselves upstairs for bed.  Normally I have a strict “No dogs allowed” policy on my bed because Eko usually sleeps like a sprawled monster.  However, sometimes you just have to bend the rules.   Rhodesian Ridgeback, marking our territory, petcentric, dog adventure, dog photos, funny

Happy to be home, Eko quietly curled up and was fast asleep before I even turned the lights out

On most mornings Eko springs to life, ready to attack the day

This morning, the usual enthusiasm was just a bit lacking.  From us both!

Eko is currently crumpled into a ball on the couch, snoring with reckless abandon

Having fun can be hard work, and I imagine Eko will spend the rest of the day in the glorious act of doing nothing.  He will need all the rest he can get because tomorrow we leave for New Jersey.  We haven’t been home since December and Eko will need to save his energy for playtime with Scout and Dutch.

Off to unpack and then pack all over again!

  1. Hope you are nice and rested for your trip and we hope you have a safe journey!!!! We have some blogging pals in Jersey!!
I am sure both you and Eko will get a second wind once you get there!

  2. Bongo says:

I usually sleep for three days after I’ve been to the dog hotel. Great pics of Eko – especially the one peeking out from the couch.

  3. Emmadog says:

I know the feeling! When my friends leave my B&B, I am always wiped out and Mom is always exhausted when she gets back from vacation…odd how that all works. Maybe Eko can drive a few miles on the road to NJ so you can nap?

  4. Misaki says:

Rest up, looks like you’re going to need to save some strength for your next adventure 🙂

  5. Kuruk says:

Eko, doing nothing is a very important activity! Woooowoooo, Ku

  6. Boomdeeadda says:

Being a social butterfly is tiring. You look so cute in sleepy mode Eko.

  7. Mags Corner says:

Vacations are nice but there is nothing to beat home and your own bed. Hugs and nose kisses

  8. I feel your exhaustion, E. When Mom was in the hospital, I was at “summer camp” for 8 days. It took me 3 days of rest to get back to normal. Having fun is tough!

    Love and licks,

  9. Sage says:

Yes, traveling can be a bit tiring but Eko will be well rested and ready for ‘party time’!

  10. Cody was not the greatest dog to travel with. (We only drove with him.) It took him about 3 hours to (finally) calm down in the car. Sometimes we gave him a Benadryl to help calm down his anxiety. Once he calmed down, he was actually enjoyable.

Love the way Eko’s paws look in the last picture.

  11. I agree even fun can be hard work. :o)
