What Is A Car To A Dog?

A while back I saw this (unsourced, unfortunately) photo that made me smile. Funny and inspiring, but is it true? I long ago lost count of how many road trips Eko and I have taken, but since we are on the road again today

Funny and inspiring, but is it true?

I long ago lost count of how many road trips Eko and I have taken, but since we are on the road again today I wonder what Eko knows and thinks about cars.

3. Eko knows the last thing I do before we leave is buckle him in.  Hence  the “Why aren’t we moving yet?” look in this photo

4. Eko knows there is nothing to see on the highway.  He likes to look around when we drive through the city, but as soon as I hit a highway Eko hits the hay

5. Eko knows that any day with me is a roll of the dice, but he also knows that someone has to look after me on the road

I have around twelve hours in the car today to contemplate it, but help me out – what do you think dogs think about cars?

Comments for What Is A Car To A Dog?

  1. I always think it’s a rolling cage – I’m not a fan of cars. Even the “trick” of my staff to drive with me to places I like didn’t work. I wish we had still horses and carriages :o)

  2. Emmadog says:

Love those words by Dogs Life! Mom and I got a bit scared seeing Eko on the roof of the car…thought maybe Mitt Romney had gotten control of the situation, but we were relieved to see him buckled in and ready to go. I sleep too on the ride but now and then I like to sit up and look out the back window to see where we have been. Safe travels!

  3. Delft says:

As usual Eko is super-cute, especially sitting on the roof, overseeing things!
And how did Eko get on with K9?

  4. Kuruk says:

I know Mama makes the car stop and go. We pups are smarter than that! Woooowooooo, Ku

  5. Victoria says:

Rigby thinks “hey i get to leave the house with Mom, much better than staying home and I am with Mom” and Muffin thinks “wow more people, cows, dogs, cats, possums, squirrels, deer and bear (haven’t seen one yet but they love to get into the neighbors garbage and the neighbors take pics) to bark at – hot DOG!

  6. Mags Corner says:

Chancy does not like to ride in a car. Love that second picture…too funny. Hugs and nose kisses

  7. Dakota is like Chancy. He doesn’t enjoy the car and I soooo wish he did! He will only sit on the floor 🙁

  8. The car is a fun place. Mostly I think, “Look at that! Look at that! Look at that! Look at that! Look at that! Look at THAT! And THAT! And THAT! And THAT!” Cars are awesome.

Love and licks and look at that!

  9. onebluedog says:

I think cars would be even better if I were allowed to sit up front!

  10. Very true! Eko on top of the car is too cute! Looks like he’s ready for a adventure!

  11. Misaki says:

I don’t mind the car, as long as I get the backseat to myself, I don’t like to share!

  12. Last pic is the best!
    And 12 hours?
    Yikes!
Doggy doesn’t mind car rides, he knows where his place is, and if there’s someone else there he’s not a happy dog.
We rarely take road trips, he associates bags packed to me leaving and he tries to block my way.

  13. Boomer thinks the car is the perfect place to get in some good sniffs, where he is boss and can smash Dottie in the corner to get those sniffs. Dottie on the other hand thinks the car is her personal fun wagon and cries at every stop thinking she needs to get out and see what’s going on.
