For Eko, every meal is like a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow
“Maybe if I look at the bowl long enough more dinner will appear!”
Friends who have been over around mealtime will ask, “Are you sure you feed him enough?” Eko has them fooled. But maybe he has himself fooled as well. For about ten to twenty minutes after meals Eko will behave exactly as he had before he ate. Restless, energetic and searching. Then, as it always does, Eko’s stomach sends him word that the belly is full and all is well.
Full.
If you watch closely you can see the exact moment Eko gets the message. His wagging tail drops, he gives a contented sigh and then Eko hops up on the couch to doze off. Like clockwork every single day! Does anyone else have a pet who forgets they just ate? Or, and I can’t be the only one here, has anyone fed their pet a second time after someone else already did? Eko fooled me on more than one occasion!
My parents think that we don’t feed Tonto!! We can’t help that meal time is his favorite part of the day. =)
Margot: My poodle pack has fooled me into feeding them again. Especially when there is more than one bowl it is hard to keep track of who ate what.
DiDi can be a kibble hog but then again there have been days when Bella has eaten her food and then DiDi’s food.
Life is never boring with a dog in the house 🙂
Love, love, love your photographic skill. I think dogs are like gold fish, if you keep feeding them, they just eat and eat till they explode.
I give them head butts when I’m hungry or I kick my bowl through the kitchen. But sadly here the quantity of food is out of the proportion to the capacity of my 7 stomachs.
Love those photos!! Daisy’s not like Eko – once she accidentally got two feedings and ate them both. Result? She “returned” the entire second bowlful within 3 minutes. We never made that mistake again!
Nutty used to tip the food bowl over, and all the food out then make a huge fuss like he had never been fed!
Whee like Eko’s method though!

I watch them intently when it’s time for my food and leap up if they move. They’ve never fed me twice because I don’t pester for more, but Pippin, our cat, has managed to get two meals sometimes. He is so convincing wailing that he’s hungry!

Brandy, would eat her food and then go eat Charlie’s food to, that’s if Charlie didn’t want to eat. But sometimes, Charlie would let her eat some and then push her away.
Now with Buddy, its a different story, he will not eat the same food a couple of days in a row. I have to switch it out.
But after Buddy eats, he knows he gets a small rawhide, and them some homemade doggie ice cream. Buddy never forgets about his after dinner treats.
It’s hard when we go camping and away, but I try to find a pet store that has all natural Ice Cream for Buddy.
Buddy only eats once a day to, I tried feeding him twice a day and was wasting a lot of food, sometimes he will let me know he wants some food in the morning.
Will, it does get a little worse when you have two dogs, trying to keep both of them happy, is sometimes hard.
I am a weak one and almost always give into the Puppy Dog Face they will give me and give them what they want.
Sometimes I feel my dogs eat better then I do ? LOL
As puppies both Katie and I did not like to eat which drove Mom nuts! Now we eat but we aren’t all crazy. We sit back and wait until Mom calls us, then we eat and I double check my bowl and Katie’s to make sure no crumbs were left. We always eat after a walk, so no pacing around waiting and we were taught not to monkey around after eating, so we always go and lie down for a bit after a meal. We are quite civilized when it comes to meal time – amazing actually!
I have a 3 year old lab, Sadie, who every day at exactly 2:30 starts to circle me and is constantly in my way. If I don’t respond she will aggravate her 7 year old big brother, Buddy the Golden, until he comes over and gives me the puppy dog eyes. One day she even tricked Dad into feeding her twice when he came home and didn’t know she had already been fed!
Chancy comes to me, stands up and puts both his front legs around my arm to let me know he is wanting food in his bowl. He only does it once though and has never eaten too much of his food. He will run to the kitchen though every time he hears me open a can of cat food. He sits and waits until the bowls are empty and I put them on the floor for him to lick. There is never food in them but he still thinks he has to lick those bowls. He will not let me forget either if I do not place the empty bowls on the floor for him. I always so enjoy Eko’s pictures. Jack and Maggie are Labs…enough said right? Dinnertime here starts around 2pm – so right about now the hyper-vigilance starts. By 4pm, they are berserk and I break down and feed them. We also play some food related training games with them after dinner – so the attentiveness doesn’t end until about 7pm. I may need to change that. And yes, they have tricked us into two feeding – more often in the morning though.
Um yeah, Boomer and Dottie will ask for food not too long after you feed them!
You have described my dog exactly! My Labrador will beg and beg and beg for more food! She gives you a look like she is about to perish! It’s amazing how they know exactly what time dinner is supposed to be served! I swear my dog has a watch somewhere hidden in the house that she uses to know what time it is!
With Cody, it was always about trying to get the Lou’s. In fact, he always wanted any and all people food that was left on the counter. That was what he wanted, regardless if he just ate or not.

That’s hilarious…..I think he’s hoping YOU forget you fed him rather than he’s forgotten he’s eaten…..oh – wait – that might be the same thing! HAHA

Lapsi acted so starved that I I’d feed her again. I was certain she didn’t get enough to eat. Each night before bed we go “doors” ” doors doors doors.” All three jump up, run outside and go pee. Immediatly after, they run inside to get their cookie. Every now and then Fiona will have to pee before the announced doors. She will cry and moan. They have a doggie door and have no trouble using it. She makes a hug racket until we go outside with her to witness her pee. I guess it is her way of sayings those magic words. She won’t miss out on that post pee cookie. Smart girl. It really is all about the cookies.
Chloe usually doesn’t ask for more food but she’s moved her dinner time up to 2:30 in the afternoon. I’m not quite sure how she managed this, maybe by begging for supper a little earlier every day over the course of months. Really, she used to eat at 5:00. Now she tries for 1:30 but I tell her she has to wait an hour and that usually settles her to around 2:00. At 2:00 or so we have another little discussion which occasionally Chloe wins.
Breakfast is always the same, she’s up with Dad at 5:00 a.m. And there’s no sleeping in at our house!
