We Love New York

I grew up about a twenty minute train ride from New York City and worked there after college. NYC is great for a lot of reasons, but I particularly love it for its limitless cast of characters.  You never who or what you might see on any given day.
I grew up about a twenty minute train ride from New York City and worked there after college. NYC is great for a lot of reasons, but I particularly love it for its limitless cast of characters.  You never who or what you might see on any given day.

Eko was distraught when he learned that this wasn’t a plush toy

And quite confused by the robot noises this guy made

Not all the characters are human either. Eko tried to make sense of why this dog in central park wouldn’t play with him

We act like cartoon characters, so a NYC artists helped us make the full transition!

The only thing better than the characters in New York City is the character of New York City.  Today, and every day, I find hope in one of my favorite quotations from Fred Rogers, “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me. ‘Look for the helpers.  You will always find people who are helping.”

Eko and I were fortunate enough to meet Eli, one of many canine helpers who assisted in the aftermath of 9/11

The tragedy of 9/11 showed the true resolve and character of the city.  I am thankful for and inspired by each and every helper.

Everything about 911 tugs at my heart -to this day it makes me so sad – but knowing about all the good people and dogs who were first responders, how much they sacrificed to be there and work to find and help people gave me such hope and still does.

Nice post about the city. I’ve never been. Mom says she likes it for about two days, then she needs out. That Elmo dude looks creepy in that large size, were you scared, Eko?

This is way too cool! It looks like ya’ll had the best time my friend. Just imagine if I was there and we ALL went for a walk together – snorts. XOXO – Bacon

  6. What a great post Will……the mere thought of 9/11 still sends me to a place I can’t describe in my heart to this day. I was out of the country on a vacation in France and my Sammy was in a kennel where he wound up staying MUCH longer than planned. People were so kind to us and empathetic – Parisians would hear us talk and know we were American and come up to us with tears in their eyes to say they were so sad and sorry about what had happened here. I’m glad you met someone who helped out on that day – I met a NYC Firefighter who had written a book about his experiences at a book-signing I did a few years ago and he couldn’t even talk about it without crying. You just never really do forget.
