After rigorous testing (a trip to the dog beach) and with the use of the best scientific equipment available (my camera) I believe I have discovered a mathematical truism to identify how happy a dog is.  Simply put, a dog’s happiness is inversely proportional to the number of their paws that are touching the ground.  The fewer the number of paws on the ground, the happier the pup.

Allow my research assistant to demonstrate.

With all four paws touching the ground, my assistant was clearly not very happy

As his first paw left the ground I could see a noticeable improvement in happiness

With two paws off the ground, happiness doubled

With three paws off the ground, happiness tripled

The study also conclusively showed that dog happiness is fully transferable.  Nothing makes me smile quite like watching Eko fly across the sand.  Apologies to all other scientists who thought they had a shot at this year’s Nobel prize.  Eko and I have this one locked up!

Comments for A Mathematical Formula For Dog Happiness

  1. That’s the perfect formula! I agree! You deserved the Nobel prize and I will vote for you! btw: can I use my facebook-account for voting?

  2. We applaud your research methods and wholly agree with your hypothesis!

  3. Kuruk says:

    SuperEko! Wooooowoooooooooo!

  4. This is definitely Nobel-worthy. Scrolling down the pictures, the more paws off the ground, the happier I was, too!! Mission accomplished!

  5. raisingdaisy says:

Haha I LOVE IT! What a great post. It’s so wonderful to see a dog SO happy. 😀

  6. Emmadog says:

Great points and a great job of capturing each stage with the camera!

  7. He does look quite happy – you should factor in the additional “happy” he gets when he finds a GREAT stick to run along with too!

  8. Misaki says:

I’d vote for you! You should patent your formula though so no one else steals it:-)

  9. harrispen says:

We totally agree with your formula. We are happiest when we are zooming around the yard at high speed.

  10. Perfect! That is the only way to tell how happy a doggy is! Those are some fab pigtures

    Have a great wheekend

Lol. You and Eko certainly are funny. My girlfriend, Cynthia, said that if she could she’d give you and Eko the Nobel price for the funniest dad/son team:)
