“Why Doesn’t Eko Have Any Plush Toys?”

A friend recently asked me why Eko does not have any plush toys.  Well, allow me to present Exhibit A. A new plush toy I gave to Eko.  Now let’s see what it looked like ten minutes later…

The little destroyer is pretty pleased with himself!

Exhibit B:  Let’s see how did this fellow fared after ten minutes with Eko

IMG_1759-2Well, Eko left him heartless

Exhibit C: I tried a stuff-less plush toy with a squeaker…

But Dr. Eko quickly performed emergency surgery to destroy the squeaker. And the toy

So to answer the question, Eko does in fact have plush toys, but only for about ten minutes at a time.  Hence why I only buy plush toys out of the bargain bin these days.

Anyone with a power-chewing pup had success with plush toys that last?  Eko loves them, but he loves them a bit more than my wallet can take at this rate!

Comments for “Why Doesn’t Eko Have Any Plush Toys?”

  1. alellzey says:

Bones and rubber toys seem to work better for my pup–unless I want an early winter and have snow all over my living room!

  2. Victoria says:

i get the stuffing free ones at pet smart – the extra durable ones and then they play with them for awhile -until they start playing tug-of-toy with them and then i take them away to bring them out to play another day – extends the life of the toy by a month or so.

  3. PigLove says:

Snorts – Eko is my kind of friend. I do the same. There’s just something about the ‘fluffiness’ of the toy that we just *have* to destroy. Now, mom gets me more pig durable toys. They’re not as much fun in the destroying department but I get a kick out of them. XOXO – Bacon

  4. Ogee says:

Ditto. And dangerous if he eats the stuffing or plastic. Tuffy Toys (the ones without the tiny ears or tails) are indestructible in our house and last for years of rough tug-of-war between our two. Don’t be fooled by the knock-offs though!

  5. My dog also destroys plush toys within minutes–he gnaws on them with his back teeth, for some reason, instead of what I would consider normal doggy chewing. He got the stuffing out of one of the expensive “durable” toys from Petsmart within two minutes. We’ve had much better luck with the “Tuff Enuff” Dangles toys, though he did poke a very small hole in one of his piggy’s legs–but it’s lasted for months and we still have it!

  6. I agree. God knows what’s inside of this plush guys. And I always wonder what a lot of stuffing is inside there, maybe Mr. Einstein is able to write the mathematic formula :o)

  7. I think you should have ended this by saying “Any questions?” lol!!

  8. Bongo says:

I’m good to my plush toys until a friend comes to visit. Then I get all hyper and chew up a toy. One friend visit equals one toy destroyed.

  9. Emmadog says:

My sister ate some stuffies as a puppy I have heard, but usually we don’t destroy toys much. The most damage comes from tug a war games where the stuffies rip.

  10. Good job, Eko. Maybe Will could learn to sew. I have a ton of stuffed toys, and most are in good shape. Once in a while, one of them needs to be punished, but Mom sews it up (ALWAYS with black thread, and not very neatly AT ALL), and I can play with them again.

    Love and licks,

  11. Eve says:

Yes Juley (beagle mix) has been a destroyer of stuffed toys at this house also. I sat and watched her one day as we would find the fluff and all she did was steadfast determination to remove all fluff from it. So no more fluffy ones unless in the clearance pile! She also loved killing the squeaker while it is inside the stuffed toy. Then wonders why it won’t squeak as she know the exact spot it should squeak. LOL So now that she is older and we don’t buy them as often she has slowed down on that pastime. Good luck with Eko!

  12. Jorie says:

Hahaha Eko! Such a cutie, but he can whip up some mischief too. Has to keep you on your toes!

  13. Jura says:

Lucky he isn’t an eater as heard an awful story when I was living in Bangkok about a Boxer who ate some of the stuffing from not even a dog’s toy but child’s stuffed toy and died. Autopsy said he was poisoned. Needless to say the toy had been made in China…. scary stuff especially as it was meant for a child!

  14. I know this is off the subject. But have you tried those Kong rubber products?? The ones you put peanut butter and/or a treat in them?? We did for Cody and they seemed to keep him busy for a bit.

  15. Wow! Look at Eko, Destruct-o dog! Whee piggies like ripping blankets and making a mess, unfortunately Mummy won’t give us plush toys anymore because whee ruin them quickly!

  16. But, that’s the point of plush toys…to hone your skills of surgically disemboweling your prey! The large Tuffies toys by VIP Products do last longer than most.

  17. Mags Corner says:

Wow, sweet Eko we think you may be the champion of stuffy destruction. Hugs and nose kisses

  18. Johanna Bowley says:

Our Ridgeback loves soft toys and refuses to play with balls, sticks or basically anything he can’t remove eyes/noses/stuffing and then once destroyed he adds to the 30+ toy carcass pile by his bed – we now look out for toys in charity shops or bargain bins!
