Eko-locks And The Three Beds

When Eko has his midlife crisis and writes a book, the title of his memoir will be Eat. Play. Love. And Sleep. Between his morning nap, his late-morning nap, his afternoon nap, his late-afternoon nap and his evening nap, Eko knows a thing or two about how to catch some shut-eye.

The most important thing when it comes to sleep is a comfy bed so I have always tried to make sure Eko has a nice spot to lay his head.

Eko’s first sleeping arrangement was a bit cramped, but he managed

Eko shared his first bed (a nice foam bed Emily’s mom gave me) with his big sister, Scout.  Unfortunately I learned the hard way that you should never give a soft, chewable bed to a teething puppy!

Eko’s next bed was an eggcrate stalwart (not pictured) that we used on the road.  But like this little bed, Eko eventually outgrew the eggcrate and it was time for an upgrade

Eko’s current bed is a Molly Mutt cover stuffed with old sleeping bags and comforters

With his favorite blanket on top, Eko has comfortably snoozed in this bed for over a year

As to why he likes to sleep with his head off the bed?  Your guess is as good as mine

I thought I found Eko-locks a bed that fit “just right” but it now appears my prince feels a pea.  In the past week it seems like Eko has more trouble finding a comfortable way to curl up on his bed.  I have washed the cover, fluffed and repacked the blankets within but nothing seems to do the trick.  I plan to try a couple other solutions, but in the meantime I am keeping my eye out for a potential replacement bed.

Eko really loved his original foam bed (so much so that he ripped it up) so I am leaning towards another one of those.  My thought is that maybe Eko kicks up the covers in his current bed and it makes for uncomfortable spots, a problem that a foam bed hopefully wouldn’t have.  Guess it’s time for me to take a look around and check out the available options.

Anyone have any recommendations for dog beds?

Comments for Eko-locks And The Three Beds

  1. Doggy picked his bed, the kitchen runner and the bathroom mat, he drags them around and they are now his property, he doesn’t care for anything “fluffy”. I got him a sorta bean bag and he used it to play, he tore it open and all the white filling was over him, he looked like a christmas tree.

  2. What about sharing your bed, Will? 😉

  3. No advice here really. Our Auntie when to a second hand shop and bought two old sofa cushions really cheaply (the bits you sit on only – she left the rest of the sofa!). The doggies love them and Auntie hasn’t needed to replace them, only wash them, in two years.

  4. I love Pooch Planet beds, they are really comfy and snuggly warm in the winter. Mom loves that they are washable.

Snorts. Eko did nothing to the bed my friend. Trust me. I’ve been in that type of situation. The bed just blew up. That’s all there was to it. Well, at least in my situation it did – it’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Cough, cough, snort, snort. Went I went to my toddler bed, I had a few problems adjusting the mattress firmness. It wasn’t mom’s Select Number bed, which by the way I’m a 65 – snorts. She finally took one of my blankets and she slept with it all night. In the morning, she put it back on my bed. It smelled like mommy and I slept like a little piglet all snug and secured that night. Now we rotate my blankets out with mommy. Just an idea. It worked for me… 🙂 XOXO – Bacon

Gooddogbeds are really sturdy and are made by a fellow Ridgeback person so they are Ridgeback approved!! http://www.gooddogbeds.com

The best beds we have ever gotten for our two Ridgebacks are from Pet-O-Bed. Long lasting, easy to clean the cover and the dogs love them.

My baby (87 lbs) sleeps on a TEMPURPEDIC dog bed from Orvis. Nothing is better.

My 87 lbs baby sleeps on a Tempurpedic dog bed from orvis: absolutely nothing else will do!

  11. Cody mostly stuck to two places. The floor and the closest thing that felt like a pillow. Although he was fond of his chair that only he used.

I also must note he learned pretty fast not to go on the good leather couches when we had them.

  12. Regardless of how big or small her bed is, Donna will still find occasions to sleep with her head hanging off. 🙂

  13. After “87” shredded dog beds we got the message and offered Easy the masterbed. But I aways like the Top Paw beds with the memory foam. btw: do you know which one of the puppies is Eko?

  14. Mayhem's Mom says:

I have no recommendations on beds as Mayhem only sleeps on our couch or in our king sized bed. She’s still a puppy and at only 45 pounds she takes up over half of the bed each night and allows us to share what’s left over. I did have to comment though because she and Eko really seem to be kindred spirits – she loves to sleep with her head hanging over the side! I laid on the bed the other night with her and tried it, I simply can’t figure out what’s comfortable about that position yet it’s one of her favorites.

  15. Ah! I LOVE to sleep too! Mom has beds for me ALL over the house; in the kitchen, in the living room, in the bedroom, at the office, and outside by the pool (naturally)…all a result of many hand me downs. But my all time MOST FAVORITEST one (next to the flokati rug) is the one Mom made from an IKEA mattress topper. IKEA has a twin size human mattress topper that comes in 3 sections (1 half length & 2 quarter lengths) and can be customized to fit a multitude of scenarios…doubled up (the half length on top of both quarter lengths all inside a fleecy bed cover) makes for a REALLY comfy bed!

    Cute baby Eko, how irresistible.

I don’t know about dog beds, but I get my BEST snoozes on the sofa. Maybe he needs his very own?

  17. We thought the sofa was Eko’s bed 🙂
