Eko running on-leash with me is the equivalent of a Ford Mustang driving with a cinder block attached.  That’s why I love when I have the opportunity to set Eko loose and watch him run full throttle.  In all our adventures I have found that the best way to watch Eko run is on a lure course.  For those who are unfamiliar, lure coursing is an event where dogs chase a lure attached to a wire that zips around a predetermined track.  In the below video you can check out two lure course runs than Eko did in San Diego.  The first is a wider shot of the course and the second one gives a closer look at Eko in full stride.

Unfortunately we have not had the chance to run any lure courses since moving to Chicago but I am actively looking for somewhere to go.  I’m hoping we might be able to squeeze in a run before the end of the fall.  If anyone knows any good organizations or resources for lure coursing please be sure to let me know.  Thanks!

Comments for [VIDEO] The Allure Of The Lure

  1. I wish we had this here too, the pup could run like the wind and maybe but just maybe I had some quiet minutes for me, because he is knackered…

  2. Great exercise, Eko has that down and loves it. If it were a live wabbit it might work for me, otherwise, I would do half a lap and then head off on my own…frustrating for Mom, but that is what I do being a scent hound.

  3. Fellow RR owner says:

AKC and ASFA both have resource for lure coursing events. ASFA more so. The are many groups, USA and Canadian, out there. We used to compete till my girl learned how to cheat badly. Good luck!

  4. Wow! Look at him go. Whee hope you find a fun course to run on. Maybe next time Eko can watch you go chasing after something on a string!

Sorry Will, I never heard of one, but if I do, I will be sure to tell you.
I do know a place out in Addison IL, on Swift Road, about a mile or two north of North.Ave, Swift Road runs next to I355. It has a couple of lakes/ponds where they can.go in, off leash most of the park/woods . It is a huge place.
Then I know up in Wisconsin I think the town is Burlington, there is the WI State Park called Richard Bong State Park, I have camped here many of times, again it’s like 4500 acres, but I have seen there many of time’s, a big group of people with there dogs, doing training.exercises a lot of running. I think they are there training there.dogs.for hunting ? But they might be able to help you or point you some where ?
If you want me to, I have some brochures from the State Park and I think I remember reading in them about this ? I can dig them out for you and give you whatever information there is ?
Or, try they Gray Hound race track up in Wisconsin, it’s about 20 mins from the IL border I think in Kenosha WI ? They might be able to.point you some where, because there has to.be a place where these dogs go to train to learn how to chase the rabbit around the track ?
So let me know if you want me to look for.the info, or since I live.only.a couple of mins from.Addison, to get the name of that park there, I haven’t been there in.a couple of years and forgot the name.
Oh Eko and you looked great in your Halloween costumes, poor Eko, going though all those other costumes trying them on, bet he was starting to think you were nuts or something ? I always wonder what Buddy really thinks about some of the stuff I do for him ?

  6. We are so lucky to have a huge backyard where the pups can run full out every day. Mostly the lure they are chasing is each other.

  7. I don’t know if you and/or Eko ever watch “Too Cute Puppies” on Animal Planet, but in the Rhodesian Ridgeback episode they set up a lure course in the backyard and let the puppies try it out. It was (dare I say) too cute!

  8. Mags Corner says:

Will, we have never seen one of those until now. Eko sure was enjoying that nice run. Wishing you all the best in finding a place to take him to run. Hugs and nose kisses

  9. Wow look at the speed Eko is going 🙂
