When the cold Chicago winter is at its worst, nothing beats a roaring fire to keep the chill away. Of course, to keep the fire going you need a pile of firewood. Luckily I have a highly sophisticated methodology to alert me when I’m running low on fuel for the fire.
And by “highly sophisticated” I mean that when the pile is about Eko’s size it’s time to resupply
We caught a bit of a break in the weather so I thought I would put off a resupply run until another day. My forward thinking associate however did not let me off that easy. He suggested we prepare ahead of time.
When he gets that look on his face, there’s no changing his mind
Eko was a hit at the fenced in firewood yard and they were happy to have him sniff out the good stuff. Then I loaded the car while Eko oversaw the operation. I’m not sure how he’s the one who always gets that gig.
Although it was tough for Eko to oversee the operation when he couldn’t see over the operation
Eko was so excited to get a fire going that back at home he tried to come out the same way as the firewood
I carried the wood while Eko handled quality control
Eko made one final count to make sure I brought all the wood inside
I significantly overestimated the amount of firewood we’ll need this winter. I bought so much I had to create another stack on the other side of the room. Oh well, I guess we’re covered for next winter too. And I know at least one guy who won’t shed a tear if we have lots of fires this season.
Tough life
We’re ready for winter, and it looks like we prepped just in time. The cold weather’s rolling back in, but we have more than enough firewood to keep Eko toasty. And in the event firewood ever becomes a form of currency I will be one of the richest men in Chicago.
I’m always interested on our firewood, the smell is unbelievable.
Bailie loves the fireplace, but we have a gas one so there is no hassle or mess…being girls, you know. She has already trained Mom to turn it on. She sits in front of it, looks at it, looks at Mom and repeats until Mom turns it on. I like it sometimes but she is nuts for it. Glad to hear Eko will be cozy warm over the winter.
Awesome my friend. I love to also sit in front of the fire, smell the air and pass out in sleep heaven. Chicago – huh? My aunt Tina lives in the Chicago area. Small world we have isn’t it? XOXO – Bacon
Looks like you definitely are read for the cold weather! We’ve been waiting WEEKS for our wood delivery…looks like it’s not gonna happen….but we’re still looking around! Stay warm and toasty…

We see you guys are going to stay nice and warm now after both of you worked so hard going to get wood, loading and unloading it. Enjoy the nice fire! Hugs and nose kisses
” I’m not sure how he’s the one who always gets that gig.” – I think it’s the executive flair.
“Tough life” – You mean there’s a dog in all those blankets? 😉
Well at least you will be toasty and warm through the cold weather. Ours really kicked in today. Mummy was like an ice cube when she got back from work and her hands were so cold whee all refused to cuddle her! Hehehe us pets know what whee want!

I agree with Eko! It’s best to be prepared!
Your stories enlighten my day! I love my dog Murphy too..I could not imagine a day without him (or his surfing my counters for some thing he KNOWS I must have put up there just for him!)
Well done on an excellent snoopervision job Eko – that gorgeouse fire you are relaxing in front of is the perfect reward for all your hard work!

We love lighting the fireplace during the winter too. I did hear that you’re getting some pretty cold weather out there – and then it’s moving on to us, so our fireplace will be crackling soon too. I love the photo of Eko peeking over the wood. 🙂
We are so jealous of your fire right now 🙂
