Like much of the country, Chicago had its first significant snow of the season yesterday.  While I love curling up with Eko next to the fire, one of my other favorite winter activities is taking Eko for a late night walk after a fresh snow.  The world seems quiet, new and peaceful when it’s just the two of us out there.   Rhodesian Ridgeback, dog blog, adventure, chicago, snow, petcentric, marking our territory

Eko loves to lift his head and take deep breaths of the cold night air

Sniffing the ground comes with its own unique challenges this time of year

Ahead of us, the world looked like a blank page where we could write a new story

But looking behind, there was always a set of feet and paws to guide us home

The busy streets came alive again this morning, but for just a few moments last night the entire city was ours

If you have the chance this winter, bundle up one night and take your pup for an evening stroll.  You will feel refreshed, relaxed and even more content to get back in front of the fire!

Comments for Silent Night

  1. beautiful! Wish we HAD a fireplace to get in front of!

We’re the same as you, Will. We love getting out in the quiet of the snow, especially when the snow is still falling. Nighttime is special, you’re right. We had our first snow of the season yesterday too – it snowed all day long and was gorgeous. We have to force Daisy out in it, though, she doesn’t like snow. But we took her out anyway! 🙂

  3. Mags Corner says:

We love snow and love to hear it fall but we get very little here. Right now the ground is covered with ice and we can hardly stand on it so no walking for us. Love the picture of Eko with the snow on his nose. Hugs and nose kisses

  4. Stunning pictures Will and Eko! The one of Eko in the street should be an award-winner. I really felt as though I was on that night walk with you – from right around the other side of the world! Enjoy your well-deserved time in front of the fire and thanks for sharing such a wonderful experience.

Lovely post…I love the pic of Eko in the snowy street…definitely frame worthy!!!! The snow…such silence…such peace!!!! Happy day ya’ll!!!!

  7. Emmadog says:

We love an early morning walk in the dark with fresh snow. Mom just hates to leave prints since it seems so pretty. With these below zero temps it is extra special sparkling like it is full of diamonds!

  8. alellzey says:

I wish it would snow here! And I agree that is an ah-mazing picture of Eko in the middle of the snowy street!

  9. Sage says:

Fun! Eko looks very spiffy in his coat. Sage loves wearing hers too.

  10. I’ve lived in SoCal for 18 years now, so rarely get to see snow, only if I travel back east. I used to love that nighttime snowfall walk with my dog Max…so quiet, big fluffy flakes. I miss snow until Christmas…and then I’m back to being thankful I live in sunny SoCal!

  11. Wow, that looks bootiful. Mummy is dreaming whee might get a little snow here but whee prefer to watch from in the warm as the little hoomans play in it!

Eko looks so handsome:-) Since Alex is on bed rest for a long time, I took Dexter with me for a walk this evening, and you are right, it was nice, quiet, and peaceful. Great idea.

  13. Great photos and a great idea too!

  14. What pawsome photos and we LOVE the idea of walking on freshly fallen snow at night. Don’t Eko’s paws get cold?

  15. Nooooo you have snow we are so jealous 🙂 send some over to us x

  16. It sounds great to take a walk at night. I looks like Eko and you would be the only citizens of chicago :o)

  17. Misaki says:

I’m sooo jealous if your snow! Once you’ve finished playing in it, could you send it my way??
