My little explorer went in, under, over and through the snow

We were lucky enough to have warmish weather during the blizzard itself, but temps have dropped so the pups prefer to keep their arctic expeditions on the shorter side. Of course, their energy is never in short supply so it wasn’t long before Penny developed a case of cabin fever.

“Hey Eko, I want the comfy spot next to Emily. Move.”

“Penny, if you smack me and stick out your tongue one more time…”

And so the great “Blizzard of 2015 Wrestling Championship” kicked off

Remember last week when I said Emily had become a dog person?

Well, if you needed any more proof, here she is working, barely noticing the dogs wrestling on top of her computer

While the pups continued their battle, I shoveled and shoveled and shoveled some more. Blizzard or no blizzard, these pups need to get out for a romp. By the time I came back in, Eko and Penny had declared a truce. The terms? Equal comfiness.

I’m not even sure why we bought couches. The dogs think a recliner is enough space for three

There are certainly worse ways to spend a blizzard

It took a few hours and a few advil, but the apartment and the cars are shoveled out. Now, time for us to see if there’s anything left of our beloved dog beach. Finger’s crossed!

Comments for Cabin Fever

  1. Emma says:

We are up to -1 today, so we just went out for a 40 minute walk to celebrate…it felt so nice and warm with the sunshine and all. I will send that weather eastward to you both 🙂

  2. we’re right there with ya! Since we are in the Detroit area, we get your weather about 6 hours after you so we are still below zero, tomorrow we will be in the teens. I practically can’t wait, crank up the grill!!!

  3. My two are going stir crazy as well. We played outside for a little bit this morning – them wearing coats too – but we came back in after ten min or so. My dogs are up to their chest in the snow so I had to trample a path for them.

Eko looks like he enjoys his wobbler, I’ve been thinking about getting one for awhile but I always forget to look when I’m in the store. They seem to be really popular lately.

  4. Carrie says:

If you have a treadmill he may enjoy walking or running on it. Of course what do I know? I live in Orange County California where it was 80 degrees on Christmas Day and isn’t much lower today. I LOVE your blog by the way and have followed it everyday since you started! I forward it to my husband quite frequently when I can’t stop laughing. We have three yorkies so our adventures aren’t quite as physical as yours. Can you say “living vicariously?”

  5. Granted I’m about 8 degrees warmer, we’ve still got ice up to our elbows. My pets keep forgetting the snow is too cold every 5 minutes we let them in/out.

  6. Mags Corner says:

Wow, Will you really have some cold, I just thought 10 was bad. No wonder you all can’t get out so Eko can get in a good romp. That is sure a lot of ice and I hope it doesn’t continue growing on your apartment. Hugs and nose kisses sweet friends!

  7. Whee have seen all the cold weather your side of the pond on the news and whee were worried! Poor Eko must hate all the cold wet stuff on his paws!

Hope it warms up where you are soon

  8. raisingdaisy says:

Oh wow, I really feel for you dealing with Eko’s energy! Sounds like you’ve got some great plans for keeping the Big Guy well entertained at home, though. 🙂 Fortunately Daisy’s energetic bursts only last a few minutes, then it’s naptime for hours. We had to “break out” of our back door this morning too, but it wasn’t as severe as your ordeal sounded!

  9. Wow! That ice is really something. Were you at all worried that you would have to wait it out? I lived in Ontario, Canada as a girl, but after years in California, I’m quite spoiled. I hope you’re not in for a long, cold winter.

  10. I was watching the news last night and it showed Chicago and I did think about you guys. Hope you are not in too much longer. In the meantime stay warm and sane 🙂

  11. She really is a dog person, the indoor-blizzard was stopped the best way ever. YAY for your Emily! btw: I noticed that I’ve got more muscles in my legs since Easy decided to be a lapdog. ha! dog people have more fun and the best side effects too :o)

  12. fredrieka says:

I love the look on Emily’s face, “I seen this before they will tire out”

  13. nerdgrl (Kim S.) says:

I can’t imagine how hot you two get with Eko and Penny snuggled next to you…AND under the blankets no less. Steffi, as a mini schnauzer, was small and she would get too hot for us after awhile. The pups are the same color as your recliner; hard to see them in the next to last image! Up here in the North country we got none of the snowiness the rest of the country got though we’re supposed to get 1-3 around rush hour today. Oh joy.

  14. dashlilly says:

They look so much alike now!!! Penny is really growing up. Good work managing the cabin fever!!

  15. raisingdaisy says:

I love how nonchalant Emily is about two huge dogs wrestling, practically on top of her! LOL Daisy is a “cabin-dog”, so cabin fever never enters into it with her. She gets her fill of the outdoors pretty quickly, though. I guess she’s as far from a Ridgeback in personality – and size – as a dog can be!

  16. coastingnz says:

All three look super comfy. Our bed looks something similar – I leave Stephen there first thing in the morning while getting ready for guest breakfasts, boys have been fed so bed time with Dad – half the bed will still be left, they’ll snuggled up as close as possible to Dad!

  17. Ohhh! Good luck finding the beach today! 🙂 We’re just getting dumped on by rain, which is absolutely preferred to snow, it’s a torrential downpour in Portland so we’re donning rain jackets to play.

  18. KDKH says:

That Emily is a real trooper — with admirable concentration skills!

  19. I was just thinking about how Emily looked completely oblivious to all that was going on around her and then you said it! I can tell she is super patient!

  20. Emmadog says:

Good for Emily becoming a true dog parent…ignoring the fur kids! When it gets real cold, we get a bit restless too with shorter walks and shorter times outside in the yard. As soon as we wrestle in the house we hear “take it outside” and have to head out to the yard regardless of the weather.

  21. Wendy says:

I love those last couple of photos. I’ve been thinking for a while now that Eko and Penny are on a mission to redefine the term ‘lap dog’ to include ridgebacks. Toy breeds could never get that coverage.

  22. Penny is like gambler and can’t sit still for long and I sit like that with my laptop too. LOL

  23. Kismet says:

Been there, done that. All that work and a few months later, nobody cares or remembers.

  24. Cabin fever is serious business when you have a “Penny” in your house!!!! Good luck getting shoveled out and back out there so those two kids of yours can run, run, and run some more to get rid of all that built up energy (at least temporarily!).

    Pam

  25. T&S says:

Will, we have a problem to recognize them when they are wearing identical necklesses (had that problem with our dogs too, I am ashamed to say) 🙂
Best regards to your whole pack from our pack 🙂

  26. Emily you are proof of who a good dog person is 🙂

  27. cafall says:

Haha – she really is a dog person, isn’t she?
