Eviction Notice

Remember when I said I had a roof over my head? Well, I still do, but only until the end of April. We’re not actually getting evicted – our landlord is selling the apartment so we have to pack up and find a new place to live.
Remember when I said I had a roof over my head? Well, I still do, but only until the end of April. We’re not actually getting evicted – our landlord is selling the apartment so we have to pack up and find a new place to live.

I wish, like Eko, all my belongings could just pack themselves

It was not until I learned we had to leave I realized how much this place was our home. Eko and I lived a nomadic life before moving to Chicago, so this apartment was the first place we both put down roots.

Eko guarded our home from noisy intruders

And welcomed guests of all shapes and sizes and species

Even when he wasn’t exactly sure who or what our guests were. Babies can be confusing

And most importantly, Eko knows all the best places to sunbathe in this apartment

We’re going to miss this place, but there will be time to wax nostalgic later. Right now our mission is to make sure we still have a roof over our head come May 1!

Comments for Eviction Notice

  1. Oh nooooooooooooooooooooo!! Your apartment is so beautiful, cozy, stylish, oh no! The fireplace!! I feel soooooooooooooooo bad!!! I guess it just means that someplace BETTER awaits you both! Best of luck! I am sure you will find something GREAT!!

  2. raisingdaisy says:

How awful! Your apartment looks so wonderful, what a shame your silly landlord is selling! I hope you can find another place with such great hardwood floors and that cozy fireplace, but if not, I know you and Eko will be happy anywhere, as long as you’re together. Good luck on your hunt!

  3. Oh how bad…. you had such a comfy fireplace there…. I hope you will find a place what’s a new home for you. in worst case I can offer you my guest room. Or you could buy the old pub in my neighborhood (that would be great!)

  4. Audrey says:

Oh, boy! Any chance buying the place?

  5. Victoria says:

wow – moving is not fun! Maybe its time to buy a house – then you wont’ have to move again

  6. Emma says:

It will be the beginning of a new chapter in your life. Mom has moved so many times, she can pack up the house in no time flat! The hard part is finding a place to move to. Her packing tip for you is never use newspaper. Buy a ton of cheap paper towels for padding, dishes, breakables, etc and wrap everything in those. When you unpack the item are just as clean as when you packed them AND you have a whole box full of single paper towels to use for messes, etc for a good year or so 🙂

  7. KDKH says:

So sorry. This happened to me once, too. I felt like I’d been Punished without the fun of being naughty!

  8. Mags Corner says:

Oh, we are so sorry that you have to move. We hope when you find a new place it will be even better than the one you are moving from and you all get settled in real quick. Hugs and nose kisses

  9. Uhoh….moving is tough…we’ll be doing it ourselves as we just bought house not far from this one and ours is about to go on the market……one thing I AM looking forward to is getting rid of all the “stuff” we’ve accumulated here in 18 years…..moving is a pain but look at it as a fresh start. Exciting even – maybe! 😉

    Pam

  10. Jorie says:

I hope you’re not leaving Chicago! May 1 is a great time to move though; popular date so there’ll be lots of places available. Are you thinking of staying near the lake?

  11. Oooh, a new adventure opening up – wonder what exciting things will happen next?!?!

  12. Pat Sieloff says:

You have both my sympathy and my empathy. Moving is the worst and we dread it, especially when you move every 18 – 20 years like we do. When you begin to feel sorry for yourselves, think of us. We are selling our very large home (by choice) and moving into our motorhome to travel the US for a couple of years until we decide where we want to live when we “grow up”. The kids, who moved out 11 and 4 years ago respectively but left a lot of their stuff, are making the process of deciding what to get rid of and what to store much harder, but like you, we and our two Ridgebacks will survive and everything will work out for the best.

  13. pawedblog says:

Ah so sorry to hear you are having to move in those circumstances. It looks like you have had such fun there. But you guys have each other and your little family so you can have fun just anywhere you go. We’ll keep our paws crossed for you all.
Hugs, Carrie (Myfie, Ellie and Millie) x

  14. mollieandalfie says:

I know yo don’t follow us but we do you,and we are so sorry to hear this news. We hope you find somewhere equally beautiful. We rent, and that is my worse nightmare, even after 18 years. xxoxxx

    Mollie and Alfie

  15. Carrie says:

Will, You guys are adventurers, remember? Just look at it as another adventure. It will give you more material for your blog and we’ll all be right there with you. I have to admit though you have a beautiful place right now but you’ll find an even better one! Best of luck to you, Eko and Emily in your new explorations.

  16. Here’s hoping you find a fabulous new roof. Moving is exciting!

  17. britt2211 says:

Hope you find a new place with lots of sunbathing spots 🙂

  18. Misaki says:

good luck in the new home search xx

  19. Oh my goodness, that’s not fun news to get. I’m sure you’ll miss the place but won’t it be fun to get settled into a new place, especially one with a fireplace and large windows for sunning?

  20. OhMelvin says:

Moving is so stressful! Good luck and we are hoping you find your new diggs quick!

  21. Boomdeeadda says:

Drats, your place looks so cute. I wish you luck. The rental market here is very tight, we got lucky and had a friend with an empty condo. I’m sure Eko will be happy wherever you and Emily are. Here, I think it’s at least 60 days notice.

  22. Ugh! Best of luck with the move.

  23. Good luck on your search for a new place. Try to see the silver lining in all this. Change is hard but things may work out much better!

  24. Good luck you never know you might find an even bigger place 🙂 x
