Does your pet have a favorite place at home?

Most pups I know have a favorite bed, couch cushion or comfy crate where they love to curl up. Eko has a favorite place, but unfortunately it’s about 93 million miles from Earth and tends to move around a bit. Eko’s favorite spot is the sun.  In our old apartment
Most pups I know have a favorite bed, couch cushion or comfy crate where they love to curl up. Eko has a favorite place, but unfortunately it’s about 93 million miles from Earth and tends to move around a bit. Eko’s favorite spot is the sun.  In our old apartment Eko knew all the best sunbathing spots and would happily trade away cushions for better position in the sunshine.rhodesian ridgeback, sun, chicago

On cloudy days Eko would patiently wait for the sun to peak out…

And then stretch himself as close as he could to his favorite star. You can practically hear him saying “Awwww, YES!”

He also mastered curling himself just-so in order to maximize sunlight. I swear Eko is solar powered

As we settle into our new place, Eko has played the part of Goldilocks, trying to find a new favorite spot that fits just right. I suspected it would be on the couch by the front windows.rhodesian ridgeback, sun, chicago

So I couldn’t figure out why he chose the futon in the back room where there is only a single window

I couldn’t figure it out because it had been cloudy over the past few days. Then one sunny afternoon it all clicked.

“Wooo, new favorite spot, baby!”

 “I LOVE DIRECT SUNLIGHT!”

I never should have doubted the little sundial. When we moved in he must have noticed the back room actually gets some of the best direct sunlight in the afternoon.

One happy pup

If you can look at all of these photos of Eko’s big yawns in the sun and not yawn yourself, you have more self-control than I do. He looks pretty comfy, I think I may just ask him to move over!

  3. I’m glad you find YOUR spot, Eko. I’s important to have your territory ( oh and don’t forget to mark it lol). My spot is the bed :o)

  4. ThatJenK says:

Adorable photos – he looks so content!
In the summer, the favourite spot is in front of the A/C (oh how our dogs are different…). In the winter, it’s where ever we are, or in close proximity to us. We move – they follow.

  5. Victoria says:

one happy pup! Never knew ridgebacks were sunbathers – mine prefer the shady spots and find the coolest place in the house. Muffin likes to sleep on the air vents when the AC is on!

  6. scarlybobs says:

Hahaha Zoey is the same!! Kasper, he couldn’t care less where the sun is, but Zoey will follow it all around the room! 🙂

  7. Emmadog says:

Bailie and I enjoy the sun in Mom’s office in the afternoon. Ridgebacks are extreme, though, when it comes to staying warm 🙂

  8. Now THAT’s a perfect sunny nap spot! Eko’s solar radar seems to be working just fine!

  9. Pat Sieloff says:

He’s just doing what comes naturally to the RR. Ridgebacks are all about food, soft places, sleep, food, sleep, warmth, food, sleep and/or cool depending on their desires of the moment. We have never allowed them on any of the couches at home or in the motorhome, so they hijacked our bed in both places. Now that we are preparing to live/travel in our motorhome full time for a while, we have decided to give up and let them each take up a (covered) couch on either side of the living room to keep the narrow aisle clear while the slides are in. Besides, they become very irritated if we wake them by stepping on or over their beds as we try to reach the back of the coach while traveling. Life is very hard when you live with such thoughtless humans!

my cage especially if I have a chew thing

  11. PigLove says:

aaww that’s the perfect spot! Mine is on the sofa right beside my mommy. That way she has immediate access to rub my pot belly 🙂 XOXO – Bacon

  12. Misaki says:

he sure looks happy. I like to sit in the most awkward place you can get lol

  13. Kim S. (nerdgrl) says:

When I was younger I loved to be right next to Mommy on the love seat. Now that I’m a senior citizen, I still like to be next to Mommy, but on my pillow and blanket in her office. I really don’t like it when she’s in a different room from me. When she goes upstairs to put laundry away, she takes me upstairs with her so I can lie on my evening sleeping blankets. Everything’s always so warm and cozy I don’t mind if it’s not in the sun. I’m so happy you’re finding a new spot, Eko! But, watch out…your new little sister might want the same spot!–Steffi

  14. Cody had a few well known spots. One was his “throne.” We used to have a chair that WAS nice. But since we didn’t have any people that needed it, it became his. His so much that the springs “died” and the fabric wore down. (He was 17 when he died.)

He also loved being on the bed, his head on the pillows.

If he wasn’t in either place, Cody was in the kitchen. Literally. Mom and I thought that Chicago food got him to such an old age. His nose and stomach was the strongest, even when his hips and eye sight were failing him.

  15. Whee love relaxing in sun puddles too! They are so warm and good for sleeping!

  16. Sunspots are the best spots, bar none. On cloudy days, I sit in my sunny spot and look confused. Mom says, “It’s a long story, Cupcake….” I need a science teacher to help me understand.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  17. fozziemum says:

Smart boy 🙂 the pups at the moment are on their beds with their blankets in front of the fireplace…here they will stay until spring hahahah of course the verandah when the sun hits is a fave too..;) hugs Fozziemum xx

  18. lol great pics. my dogs favorite place is next to me on the couch.

  19. I like his style. Unfortunately Oscar isn’t always quite so obvious. He has his moments of “I want the sun” or “I want to hide from you, wench” or “I want to block the heating vent” and oh so many more. Oh for him to be as obvious as that!

  20. Boomdeeadda says:

Looks pretty comfy for sure. Hope your move went well. I’m hanging round till I catch up all your fab news and you’re right, now I’m yawning…LOL thanks Eko 😀

  21. Boomer loves to get sun on “his” couch while Dottie loves to curl up in chairs.

  22. OhMelvin says:

That is the cutest thing I have ever seen! If he was human, he might have a tanning bed!

  23. Its too hot over here for Donna to ever like being in the sun. She has no one favourite spot I think.
