Old Toys get a New Life

Some of Eko’s more durable toys are nearly as old as he is. To keep playtime interesting I rotate which toys he plays with, but there’s no getting around his familiarity with these stalwarts.  More often than not it means that most of Eko’s toys sit unused in a bin.
Some of Eko’s more durable toys are nearly as old as he is. To keep playtime interesting I rotate which toys he plays with, but there’s no getting around his familiarity with these stalwarts.  More often than not it means that most of Eko’s toys sit unused in a bin.  Or at least they did before Penny came along. Now that we have begun year one AP (After Penny), the rules have changed. All of Eko’s toys are new and exciting to her and so she gleefully chomps, tosses and tears her way through the inventory. Penny’s enthusiasm has reignited Eko’s flame and the two now love to battle for toy supremacy.

While jostling for a bone, Penny may lack size…

But she certainly makes up for it with tenacity!

A once forgotten rope toy is now the centerpiece for epic games of tug-of-war

Eko usually tires of playing before Penny so he’ll just let her win. Penny revels in victory

My favorite part of watching Toy Wars is seeing Penny’s reaction once she wins and Eko is no longer interested in the prize. It’s like she has a sudden existential crisis. She lays down with her winnings and becomes very contemplative.

“I fought. I won. But what was it all for?”

Before she can worry too much, Penny falls asleep. I reset the field and by the time Penny awakes she’s ready for another round. I always knew Penny would bring Eko and I some much needed new life, but I’m glad (and so is my wallet) that she’s done the same for Eko’s old toys.

yeah thats how it works w/two pups – i have a whole cabinet of toys and i take out the old ones that they wouldn’t play with and once i have them out its all about tug of war with which ever one i got out! That is actually great because the toys still get used and they still have fun

  2. Emmadog says:

Enjoy the savings now. Mom has recycle toys through as many as four dogs, but once Bailie hit eight months, she destroyed almost every one of them! Penny is adorable and so happy. You can tell she loves Eko already. Bailie gives me that look too sometimes, but as she gets older, she is less dependent on me.

  3. It’s for fame and honor Penny :o) Isn’t that great that the old toys found a new owner? You only need a second pup :o)

  4. Pat Sieloff says:

Looks like Eko has met his match…and a new BFF (aka little sis). Congratulations.

  5. Dottie Wells says:

In a word, “WONDERFUL”. That’s the way it should be. The youth learn from their elders.
And, the humans can take a “short” break, while school is in. Great shots, as usual. Thanks for sharing, Will. Tuffy’s not too crazy about the pics, but I sure am. lol

Love that Echo has a new sister. Ours are 6 and 7 and still play like pups together twice a day.

  7. Everything old is new again……….I love that saying especially when it comes to toys!!
