When I first brought her home, Penny’s ears were more like curtains which closed over her eyes every time she turned her head
As Penny has grown her ears have well…migrated. I can’t tell if it’s because her head it growing or if her excess skin shrinking, but Penny’s ears now often point directly to her sides.
Here you can see Ms. Sideways Ears in action.
Sometimes just one ear sticks out
And sometimes just the other
So now I’m trying to figure out if Penny will always have these cute and silly sideways ears or if this is just a phase. I never remember Eko’s ears making a migration, although for a time he had the most hilarious bump on the crown of his head that filled out well before he did.
I know dog ears are both literally and anatomically all over the place, so I’m curious to see how this pans out. If those ears continue to stick out, I’m pretty excited to use my new nickname for Penny: little airplane.
Cleared for takeoff!
So what do you guys think? Are Penny’s ears going to stay stuck out, or does she just need to grow into them before they settle?
Those ears are making for great photos. No matter how they land, she’s always going to be adorable!
Remember “The Flying Nun?” (you might be too young)….in the last photo that is who Penny looks like. Love it!
I love puppy ears! So cute! Interesting how they’ve evolved as she ages. I didn’t know that would/could happen.
The good news is, that regardless if they land, go up, go in different directions, SHE WILL ALWAYS BE SO FLIPPEN ADORABLE!!!
I love Penny’s ears no matter how they hang! And I LOVE your blog!! You and Eko and now Penny make me laugh every day. My Welsh Terrier, Rusty, just gives me that “oh, you’re reading about Eko and Penny again, aren’t you” look.
Question for you .. don’t you need to change your byline to Will, Eko, and Penny???
big feet for a little girl
You need to get her out in the wind in the right direction and video them flapping! You know we are an ear family, so we love ears!
puppy ears are super cute! I always thought Easy will step on his ears as he was a dwarf :o)
aaww – I’m thinking they are going to settle. Either way – she is BEYOND cute. XOXO – Bacon
Hahaha I love it! She is too cute 🙂
We had a rabbit named Domino, and she ALWAYS had one ear sticking up and the other laying down, for the whole of her life 😀
Floppy eared dogs can do some funny things with them. I have a picture of Walter that looks like he is wearing a Flying Nun hat the way his ears are sticking out (okay I’m dating myself here a little I hope you can get the reference).
We don’t know but we do know that the one ear sticking out at a time is just adorable. She has to be so much fun to watch grow and learn. We are glad you share her growth in pictures. Hugs and nose kisses
I have a floppy-eared pointer mix whose ears do many of the same things Penny’s do. Sometimes they flop demurely, sometimes they look like they are sort of on stalks and point sideways, and sometimes when he is very alert or avidly attacking something (usually a cardboard box), they perk forward in perfect triangles. Fortunately at 3.5 years old, his ears have never grown out of their multiple personalities, making for all sorts of humorous moments and fun photos!
My late Lab had the cuties, biggest ears when he was a pup, then he grew to be close to 100 pound but his ears never caught up, so he had those small, tucked side way ears like what Penny has right now. It’s hard to say about them ears on the puppy. But I agree with all the comments here, Penny is going to be adorable like Eko no matter what.
Awww she has such adorable ears! Whee think she will grow into them like us guinea piggies do ^_^

My sweet Jorga still has “flying nun ears” as they are referred to. I love them and have no intention of fixing them!
Her ears are fabulous just like the rest of her……they’re “her”…..part of her personality and I bet they’ll always be as expressive for her as those eyes! Airplane Ears – love it!
Pam
She’s perfect for the part in the three monkeys as “hear no evil”.
Hehe…. A bit like my ears when I am doing agility. Dumbo the Disney Elephant has nothing on my ears.
What’s not to love about puppy ears? They are always too big for their little heads.
I remember Artemis and her awkward teenage years. Her legs were long, her body short and her head small. She grew out of it thank goodness.
Oh that’s just too funny! I’d kind of like to see them keep us guessing for a long time – first this ear, then that – it’s adorable and so very “Penny”. 🙂
Ok. Ok. I see the look in ekos eyes. Time for a one on one trip with just the big boy with plenty of picture taken as he is the number one star. A whole day just for eko.
I don’t know what those crazy ears are going to do, but personally I’m hoping they stay the way they are now. Love them! Especially when it’s just the one sticking out. Too cute!
Gorgeous girl 🙂 and Docs ears were never huge but they still go flying nun…or one or the other…and he is heading to 12 so maybe Penny will be prepared for lift off always…too cute 😉 hugs Fozziemum
lol i love wonkie ears, she has some growing into the ears to go.
They are cute ears!!
