Penny turns five months old tomorrow. Five months is no time at all, but Penny’s managed to squeeze in lots of mischief, mayhem and adventure.  However, one thing she can no longer squeeze into is her baby crate. While Penny grows in maturity, she also grows in size and the puppy crate is now too tight. That’s why it was time to help my little hermit crab find a new shell. Penny was quite perturbed when I moved, disassembled and cleaned the little crate. It was her first home!

“Hey buddy, what are you doing to my house!?”

I broke out the large crate Eko used to use and set it up extra comfy for my pup. Eko’s old digs would be perfect as Penny’s new digs. But Eko and Penny didn’t see it that way at first. Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy, adventure, marking our territory, blog, dogs, photo

Eko immediately claimed his old spot, and Penny stole Eko’s bed

Both pups were not pleased to give up their old homes, but I had planned for just such insolence

No pup can resist the appeal of a bribe!

“Alright, now if you guys eat these treats it means you have to leave your old beds and…”

“Yeah, yeah, whatever, just give us the treats!”

I’m happy to report the gang has gracefully let go of the old and embraced the new. It’s an important part of growing up. Speaking of which, Penny isn’t the only growing pup in the family. Check out this shot of Auggie.

When did this happen!?

I have a trip home planned for October and I can’t wait for Auggie and Penny to see each other again. Times have changed just a bit.

Hard to believe they were ever this small

We’re going to need a bigger bed for these two to share, that’s for sure!

Comments for Penny’s growing up in more ways than one

  1. LOVE IT!! Uh oh….if Auggie has to give up his bed for a new one when Penny comes, you had better come armed with treats!! 🙂

  2. I remember the time as Easy was too big for his puppy-bed. He was totally disappointed and tried to make it bigger with his own paws and teeth :o) Oh it looks like Auggie had her first visit at the groomer, hope she likes her new hairstyle :o)

  3. Victoria says:

Love the pic of her sitting in the bottom half of her crate and of Auggie and her – they grow up way too fast. I can almost sense her saying “Slow it down Will – I won’t be a puppy for long!”

  4. Hilarious that Eko wanted his old crate back!

  5. Emmadog says:

It is just amazing how they change so very fast! We started out with big beds and crates so she had to grow into them which she did quickly. Penny is so adorable and Eko is so nice with her!

  6. Misaki says:

Hahaha love that Eko wanted his old bed back!

  7. fredrieka says:

out grow your dog jail the bottom looks like a litter box, another thing to learn, how to use the litter box for winter nasty days

  8. Always nice to catch up Will

  9. In the mere blink of an eye – they grow!!! Glad the bed swap worked out….treats help with those things don’t they!!

  10. Marcela says:

Penny has the cutest face ever:-)

  11. So adorable!! And puppies really do grow at the speed of light. Especially for big dogs. One moment they fit on your hand, next moment *poof*! They can’t even fit on your lap anymore. Haha! Enjoy it while you can!

  12. Getting so big so fast, wow 5 months already. She is looking great. As for hunt test, there are different clubs that host tests. Most clubs hold two hunt tests, one in the spring and one in the fall. Each state has their own clubs and test. We are very fortunate that we live in the midwest where we have a long hunt test season running from April to Sept. Southern states don’t have this luxury as it is too darn hot in the south to be running all those tests. It turns out that there are 2-3 hunt tests a month, all held on the weekend. We are nearing the close of the season so it happens we have 4 in a row. Then it is done and it is hunting season.

  13. Was afraid you were going to have to buy them matching beds 🙂 Can’t believe how big Penny and Auggie are getting. Tell your Mom Auggie is still snuggably adorable! Have a great week!

  14. Debbie says:

Eko’s brother, Bauer, spent ten days in a kennel when he turned a year old. After that he became crate phobic and would bust out of it no matter how we secured it. We finally gave up and relegated him to the bedroom when left home alone where he did just fine. Btw, we just returned yesterday from moving our daughter into Notre Dame for her freshman year of studies…talk about how did they get so big so fast?

  15. They grow up too fast 🙁

Penny is such a beauty! I could never resist that sweet little face. I can’t get over how big the dogs have grown – the reunion between them should be fun!

  18. Eko misses his old crate! XD
