Puppy Logic: It makes perfect sense.

One of the questions I frequently ask Penny (with varying degrees of intonation/volume depending on circumstance) is “Why did you do that?” From the silly to the mischievous, Penny is always mixed up in some seemingly inexplicable encounter. One of the questions I frequently ask Penny (with varying degrees of intonation/volume depending on circumstance) is “Why did you do that?” From the silly to the mischievous, Penny is always mixed up in some seemingly inexplicable encounter. After some extensive research I believe I have cracked the code as to the logic my puppy uses to make decisions. Rhodesian Ridgeback, puppy, funny, marking our territory, adventure, blog, dogs

Well yes…but not really, Penny. That’s not how it works.

See, that’s not right either. Eko giving up is not quite the same as him being comfortable!

Eko may be a bit more sensible these days, but he was once a puppy logic expert himself.

Eko’s logic did not account for me picking him up and carrying him to the car

Now, I try to get Penny to look to me to think things through. But that doesn’t always work out. Here’s a quick flow chart illustrating a common occurrence.

Penny likes to ask questions she’s already answered for herself

Puppy logic may be a bit faulty…

But what she lacks in that department is more than made up for in the cute department. Cuteness always trumps logic

Don’t let that fool you into thinking puppy logic is always cute.

Penny’s stare when she wants to go outside would make Clint Eastwood proud

It may not make sense, but somehow puppy logic also makes perfect sense. So let me hear it, what not-quite-right-yet-completely-true kinds of logic do your pets use to get what they want?

Comments for Puppy Logic: It makes perfect sense.

  1. Easy’s answer to Why did you do that? is simple: Because I can :o)
when I look in Penny’s eyes I have to say YES, whatever it is :o)

  2. Emmadog says:

Bailie always tells Mom she tries to eat everything she finds on the street so they can continue to work hard on the drop it and leave it commands. I personally think she needs chewing gum for dogs as she is not happy unless she has something to chew on in her mouth.

  3. I’m with Easy above!! I feel the same! These were just great!

  4. Elyse says:

You guys get to eat from the table, so I can too.

  5. omg penny and baby eko! 🙂 very cute.. and yes.. cuteness trumps all logic!

  6. Jen Jelly says:

Seriously made me laugh; that’s pretty much exactly what I think my dog (even though she’s not a puppy anymore) is thinking. Especially “therefore everyone is comfortable.” It’s lucky they are so cute.

  7. Kyla says:

I’m 12 and everything’s edible to me also. What’s the problem?

  8. Alisa says:

Love this! Puppy Eko is adorable 🙂 I posted some new pics of Roo today…she’s looking so tall like Penny. I think Roo and Penny would be a pretty dynamic duo!

  9. coastingnz says:

oh my gosh – that is just brilliant and oh so true. You are totally dialed in with puppy logic!

  10. Oh silly puppies… the things you do!

  11. We always imagine our pup’s inner dialog laced with profanity; especially when we take his beloved shoes. His big sister is laughing at him. “You’ve been here 5 weeks and you’ve haven’t figured it out yet. Take the shoe under the bad. “

  12. Penny has perfect logic as far as Jack is concerned. Jack’s logic is: Kate gets up from her desk, it must be treat time. Kate looks in the direction of the kitchen? It must be treat time. The sun is out? It must be treat time. It’s dark out? It must be treat time…you see where this is going right?

  13. hahahaha great logic, I buy it!

  14. fozziemum says:

Bravo…Puppy Logic..much like Pretzel logic..and yes senior pooches have the same logic…Forrest’s goes like this…Me: “Do you need to go out for a poop?” Forrest :”Yes I knew you wanted me to go out looking for a cat poop” ….I know ewwww but it’s a dog thang 😉 love this post 🙂 and cute trumps logic …hugs Fozziemum

  15. Puppy logic is more like puppy un-logic. BTW, those shaky theories can last into adulthood, sometimes. Especially that one about staying at the park. Exhibit A – me! Good luck.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  16. NO Penny, older brother is not food! D:
