Depending on how crowded the dog beach gets, the walk from the car to the gate can be as far as a quarter mile. You know who has time for that? Not Eko. I don’t remember exactly when it first happened, but one day while taking that long walk along the fence Eko just decided “Forget this.” Ever since, this is how Eko gets into the beach:Rhodesian Ridgeback, puppy, adventure, dog, blog, chicago, beach, marking our territory

“♫ I believe I can fly ♫”

It certainly beats walking all the way around

Eko leads the charge, I boost Penny and then I do my best to hop over without ripping my shorts. Usually the pups will romp themselves into exhaustion and then we leave the park through the gate.

However, on our last visit the beach happened to be particularly quiet. This meant Penny decided to relentlessly bother Eko. He was happy to romp for a while, but he could only take so much of his rambunctious sister.

Eko wanted to relax in the water. Penny wanted mayhem

Eko wanted to sunbathe. Penny wanted more mayhem

Then out of nowhere Eko took off in a dead sprint with Penny hot on his heels. I thought Eko decided to play with Penny, but it turned out he was on a mission.

An escape mission

Eko smiled and left Penny in the dust

Penny looked like a center fielder watching a home run go over the wall

Penny could only stare in disbelief

Quite pleased with himself, and his successful mission, Eko turned around and politely sat down. It was clear it was time to go. I once again lifted Penny and lugged myself over the fence.

Eko should enjoy the victory while he can, I have a feeling that before long I’ll be the only one who needs help over the fence!

Comments for Eko Knows How to Make an Entrance (and Exit)

  1. wow that’s lift off, like a space shuttle even with the start cloud :o) sometimes dogs act like humans (or humans like dogs?) the kids want to play and to do 87 things within a minute while we only have one wish when we are on the beach: a quiet minute :o)

OMG, never imagined a large Ridge can clear that kind of height, you were right, I thought I caught Eko’s smirk in the last frame!! Penny is catching up in size though, before you know it, you’ll have two high jump Ridges. Wished a video for this, maybe next time round.

  3. fredrieka says:

OH I could do that easily I love to jump, momwithoutpaws would keep me on the leash, she is no fun..

  4. Emmadog says:

It is fun leaving the younger sibling in the dust, but sooner than you can believe, they are faster and more clever than you!

  5. Gads, I would be cringing at the top twists of the chain links. Neeka has a propensity for cutting herself on everything. Don’t know how many trips to the vet for stitches. However, she is an ace at scampering up large boulders at the lake (Folsom in Northern California) then stand posing for all to see. Much better vantage point for scoping out other dogs or geese to play with. Can’t wait to get her little brother out there. Khoi will be in seventh heaven. Beaches were made for dogs. I just wish mine would play in the water like Eko and Penny.

Excellent. Love two dogs at play – our boys are the same and it is always Ziggy annoying his “big” brother. They are now 9 and 6 – it doesn’t stop LOL

  7. Magnificent jump Eko! One of these days she’ll be right behind him but for now – those few moments of peace must feel mighty nice!!! Great shots…….

  8. Jen Jelly says:

That’s a pretty impressive jump, and even more impressive that he had the thought to use it as an escape from Penny lol.

  9. Kyla says:

Penny’s taking lessons from the Cubs now?

  10. That’s hilarious, thanks for the laugh for today. I’m so glad you got pictures of it all!

  11. Eko you never cease to amaze 🙂 Great shots Will! Glad you caught that one on camera, especially the smile on Eko’s face! Have a great week!

  12. Now those are some fabulous action shots, poor Eko was trying to get away.

  13. Misaki says:

    That’s pretty impressive Eko!

  14. Whee are sure Penny will get the hang of that fence hopping in no time. Hoomans on the other hand may need more practice!!

    xxxx

  15. I can’t wait to see the look on his face though when Penny follows him right over the fence soon. He won’t be able to escape much longer!

  16. Marcela says:

Lol. Poor Eko. Penny can certainly drive him crazy. Puppies have so much energy that they can easy overwhelm other dogs.

  17. Now that was funny Eko 🙂

  18. Good one, Eko!! Practise more, you need to raise the bar when Penny grows bigger. XD

  19. This is priceless! Amazing photos and a great story. Eko is so funny. I love how he knows his own mind and follows his heart. Poor Penny – it’s tough being the young one but, you’re right, it’s only a matter of time before she’s following him over the fence, too! Good luck with the shorts. Ha!
