“Did someone say pyramid?”
The P4 is a three tiered system. The base of the pyramid, the least preferable option, is what I call the “Handy Tier.”In this section, the pups use whatever is handy to make up a good spot to crash. Couches, futons, blankets, beds, pillows – whatever they can get their paws on
Above “Handy” is the “Heat Tier.” The pups will eschew handy comforts for a warmer spot any day
Sure there’s plenty of couch available, but Penny would much rather soak up the sun
Same goes for Eko, he’ll always take the sun on the floor over a shady couch spot
And above “Handy” and “Heat” what takes the undisputed place at the top of the pyramid? “Human” of course!
No matter where I am and no matter how little space there is to share, these two always want to be by my side
Mr. Sun can move on over. So can my brother James – to make room for three pups who want to be close by
In the Guinness Book of World Records (in Will’s apartment) Emily holds the title for largest dog pile. Every single one of these pups preferred to smash together near Emily rather than spread out
There’s some variation and blurring between/within tiers, but for the most part the P4 is guaranteed to tell you where my two pups are at any time. As it stands, I don’t think the P4 is ready for it’s own “As Seen on TV!” infomercial quite yet.
There are some tweaks to be made to the system. I know long haired dogs prefer cooler spots and I know there are some pups who prefer flying solo. I’m also sure there is a category or tier I’ve overlooked.  So help me out, how do your pets decide where to post up?
We have been AWOL for so long and Penny you have grown 🙂 xxoxxx
Mollie and Alfie
Love the last pic!
Muffin loves the coolest spot – hardwood floor but will move up to the couch for short comfy relaxation times – Rigs is all about comfort and warmth – so the spot w/the sun and a cushion suits him just fine and of course like you – wherever you sit is where they want to be regardless of the temp or comfiness factor. Wouldn’t have that any other way!
We aren’t allowed on the furniture, so we have no pyramids. Bailie and I do fight over sun puddles along with cat bro Bert. The three of us love to be toasty warm. Katie and kitty sis Sophie had much longer thicker fur and prefer the shady areas. You all are sure cute, though, all stacked up!
Duncan is on my feet, or my husband’s. The smellier, the better (so he prefers John’s). Cooper? Cooper would sneak up behind me and plop down not touching me, but so that when I turned, I would tumble over him. He always looked so innocent, too.
You’ve hit the nail on the head I think – our boys are exactly the same. Sun we’re there, humans, let us in – furniture oh yeah baby!
Lately not enough sun it is in front of the fire, momwithoutpaws finally put a rug down.. I only have to get up when they put more wood in the fire.
Daisy has two favorite places – on top of us, or on top of the biggest pile of pillows or blankets she can find. In that order. 🙂 I love that first photo of Penny, I can’t believe how fast she’s grown!
Before sunshine, before warm blankets, Neeka and Khoi will check out who has the best snack. Then they’ll choose the closest square and wait patiently for something to drop, all the while faking sleep. Their noises never sleep.
Delightful photos and post, Will. My cats are sun worshipers this time of year too. They know all the choice spots and are happy to be there as long as the sun lasts. Do you think they wonder where it goes when suddenly they’re no longer in the sunny spot?
Love seeing all those happy dogs on Emily’s lap. I hope she was able to quickly regain circulation in her legs.
Hilarious configurations! I also love a good sun puddle, but if Mom is sitting somewhere and there’s an inch of space next to her, that inch wins out! I will squeeze and squash and push and shove till I’m in.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
You can find me where the food is.
That first photo just cracks me up.
I think this holds true for all rr’s 🙂 Love this article!
Whee love that last pigture! Puppy pile up!!!
xxxx
Jack is a ‘fly solo’ dog, so he doesn’t like to cuddle with us or with Maggie. So they pretty much have designated spots in the house and stick to “Jack’s bed, Maggie’s bed”. Maggie sometimes breaks the rules, but then Jack just goes to “Jack’s alternate bed”.
With Sam, the closer the better. He’s happy to curl up into a teeny tiny little ball next to me or lay across my lap, but on the bed; he takes the “it’s ALL mine!” approach including space, blankets, and pillows. Sigh. 🙂
How could anyone look at these pictures and not want a dog or dogs. Love, love, love the dog pile picture. Hugs and nose kisses
OMG how did Emily manage that one LOL brilliant shot
