An old, beat up futon across from my desk is where Eko and Penny like to set up shop for most of the day. Shop meaning sleeping quarters, of course. Fitting both pups comfortably is a bit of an operation, but like dance partners, these two know how to twist, twirl and turn just right.  Rhodesian Ridgeback, puppy, blanket, cute, sleep, chicago

The dance usually begins with both partners in the same position

Inevitably Eko ends up expanding and monopolizing the space

But Penny’s now big enough where she can give it as good as Eko, so sometimes he’s the smushed one

Eko is quite familiar with this dance and when things get tight he knows just how to flip the tables.

By flipping himself!

Penny isn’t afraid to let Eko know how she feels about this maneuver.

“Stop cheating, you jerk!”

Once differences have been settled, the pups will often settle into the “Yin/Yang” formation

On extra cold days, the Yin/Yang formation is modified to the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

If the temps drop a bit further and the heater comes out, everyone gets their face as close as possible

The final step in the Comfy Dog Waltz is reserved for when temperatures drop below freezing. With the cold snap that just set in here in Chicago, it’s looks like we’ll be seeing a lot of the “Two Headed Blanket Monster”

Wrapped tight, only heads exposed, facing the heater. Pure bliss

Temps are dropping across the country, so in the words of The Most Snuggled Pups in the World, “Stay comfy, my friends!”

Comments for The Comfy Dog Waltz

  1. I totally love the two headed blanket monster… I bet it eats cookies :o)

  2. coastingnz says:

Your kids are obviously well loved and it is great to see. Our boys love their blankets too and Ziggy loves to snuggle up with big brother Nico if scared or cold – Nico is happy by himself but doesn’t push his brother away so it is very cute.

  3. Laura says:

So cozy! So cute! I think we humans could learn a thing or two from Eko and Penny.

  4. They’re so cute all snuggled up in their blankie!

  5. Emmadog says:

They are so funny! None of us dogs snuggle together at all. We may lie next to one another but that is it.

  6. Love the golden ticket reference…

    LOL
My husband just commented: everything same as here =)
    gentle-male and occupying our territory-female =)
I remember when I gave our male RR a blankett for the first time when he came to us, he loved it and my husband taught it was stupid. Now blankett is a necessity. And all other RR that we know are crazy about them.
But I have to replace the blanketts offten because of the hair, still searching for the right material. Do you have any suggestions?

Btw we have two dog beds, they sleep in one, because our female always wants to be near our male. He isn t always happy about it. =)

  8. Candy says:

So glad I found your blog! Our RR, Copper is the same age as Penny. She is our first RR, so it’s nice to see someone with an older one and some experience. We’re learning as we go!

  9. Misaki says:

They look so sweet cuddled up in the blankie:-)

  10. SOOOOOOOOOO cute! When wrapped in their blanket they look like a “Ridgeback Burrito” or maybe “Ridgeback Taco” !!!!! Love the pix….

  11. raisingdaisy says:

I love the way they cuddle up together! Daisy agrees – snuggling up on comfy sofas, preferably on top of a human, is the best way to spend the day. Blankets are good second choices, though… 😉

  12. Cathy & Banjo says:

The flipping pic, where Eko appears to be laughing at Penny, is just great! You capture your pups’ personalities and interactions so well!

  13. Kyla says:

Over 80 in Arizona. No need for blanket. Will trade blanket for food. Will sell my soul for treats.

  14. Marcela says:

Lol. They are just too cute to be for real. I love your pictures. Keep your kids and yourself warm. In Odenton, MD where we live, we had a beautiful day: sunny and about 50 degrees. Bundle up:-)

  15. Love seeing the Rhodesian snuggle bunnies and their ‘dance’ to comfortable bliss–too cute. 🙂 Stay warm-isn’t it a bit early for the Polar Vortex to arrive? It sure is in my books. Stay warm you guys.

  16. OhMelvin says:

I love when you see two dogs who were just meant to be together!
