Puppies have a lot of things to figure out as they grow. One of those things happens to be the very fact that they grow. At her best, Penny doubled in size every few weeks, so a couch that was out of reach at the beginning of one month was easily accessible by the end of that month. This also means Penny’s been gaining strength/speed at superhero levels.rhodesian ridgeback, puppy, beach, chicago

Penny loves the benefits of no longer being the smallest dog on the block. Recent trips to the beach offered time for Penny to test the physics of her larger size.

Better leverage? Check. Eko can no longer easily pull sticks away

Larger mass? Check. Penny can now throw her weight around when playing

Better acceleration? Check. There’s nowhere Eko can run where Penny won’t follow

Longer reach? Check. Eko’s length advantage is steadily shrinking

Penny certainly has a lot of things going for her, but she still has a few hard physics lessons to learn. Most notably, force equals mass times acceleration:

With both pups running full speed, Penny decided to crash head on into Eko

And nearly knock herself unconscious!

I love the above photos for so many reasons. Penny looks like a comic book character who just got punched and Eko’s grin is priceless. Not to mention Penny’s “I’ve made a huge mistake” face.

Penny is a powerful pup, but she’s learning that power has some limits. One of which happens to be her brother’s sizable rear end and thick skull!

Thank you so very much for the ‘play-by-play’ of Eko & Penny on the beach! I laughed out loud, so funny, I forgot where I was! It’s truly been a pleasure watching your Penny grow & I just love Eko’s “smooth” character. My Rhodesian, Chi-Chi will be 18 months on the 3rd of Dec., & it still feels like I just got her in Aug. 2013! They grow so fast – but are still the lovable lugs, but bigger! My parents enjoy the blog since I shared the link with them! We grew up with RR’s & I’ll always have one in my life!

Ha! I love that face as well; she reminds me of my dog Laika – always trying to push those limits 🙂

oh dear – you had me in stitches – especially that last photo. A look we’ve often seen on our boy Ziggy as he has “bounced” off his big brother Nico – hilarious. Thanks for the great start to the morning – I need to wipe the tears from my eyes now. LOL

  5. I love seeing the physical similarities between Eko and Penny. Since they came from the same blood lines (am I right?), it’s remarkable how different their personalities are developing. Neeka and Khoi are from different breeders with only one common ancestor, and they are night and day physically and in personality. But one thing they all share; big brother/sister always get that same smirk when the younger does something totally unexpected, like stealing a stick or bouncing off of them. Khoi loves jumping from the couch onto Neeka. She smirks at him and casually steps aside as he scrambles to his feet. Hilarious. I think she and Eko could trade some pretty humorous anecdotes about their sibs.

They grow up so fast, can’t believe Bailie is bigger than me!

  7. Sage says:

Priceless is right! I love the expressions on their faces. Eko is meeting his match!

  8. Marcela says:

Lol. Omg, Penny is getting so big. I love her adorable face.

  9. Great pictures, they are two peas in a pod,

  10. fredrieka says:

she is getting big, well we have snow and slippery if I am not careful my legs will spread out like bambi legs how is it in chidogo?

  11. That last pigture is brilliant! Mummy is cracking up!

  12. Sushi says:

Penny is like my pup Pepper. Always wanting to push the boundaries, while Rustle stands there watching very wisely.

  13. Oof, the single word that comes to mind in that last frame (then ouch). Brilliant photos telling a terrific story.

  14. Kyla says:

I guess the brain grows later.

  15. OhMelvin says:

It is seriously amazing the transformations that puppies make in the fact that it happens so quickly!

  16. A couple of brain-jolting “mistakes” will never slow that girl down. But maybe a helmet would ease the skull-shattering till she has a chance to grow a little more….

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake
