When I get up to shower, the dogs look like this: 22.1

Innocent and quiet as can be

But when I’m in the shower I swear I hear a stampede or a marching band or a stampeding marching band going through the apartment. If I rush out of the shower, I open the bathroom only to find Eko and Penny right where I left them.

Call me snoopy (the adjective, not the dog), but I needed to know what really happens when the pups think I’m not watching. So yesterday I turned on the shower like normal but hid with the bathroom door cracked just enough to keep an eye on the action.

22.2

Eko sat prepared. But prepared for what?

22.3

Penny to bug him, of course

22.4

And poke him in the eye

22.5

And give him a dental exam

It was like watching kids play when their teacher stepped out of the room for a minute. I started snickering from my hidden perch.

22.6

“Hey, what’s that noise?”

22.7

Eko spotted me and the jig was up

Not surprisingly, Eko and Penny like to get into trouble when they think I’m not watching. I make slightly less noise than a hippopotamus so in-person spying isn’t my forte. I may have to set up a hidden camera to catch the full story.

Anyone else ever snoop on their pets?

Comments for Call Me Snoopy

  1. I sometimes wish I had a cam to see what’s going on …. But on the other hand I’m afraid I could see scary things :o)

  2. derrycats says:

Some fun is for dog’s eyes only!

  3. meANXIETYme says:

I tried with the video camera on my laptop, but they moved around so much I only caught them as they were walking by and/or the barking from the front room of our house (where they like to watch out the windows). I’d LOVE to wire the house to watch them, but in our situation, it isn’t practical.

  4. dashlilly says:

I LOVE to watch them when they think I am somewhere else!! Lilly is so much my shadow though that it is tough. Cracks me up when I catch them in something!! And usually it’s the little sister bugging her brother Dash.

  5. fredrieka says:

Oh I betcha they were good look at those faces

  6. Emmadog says:

That is so funny! We all have done that as pups. Only recently is Bailie behaving when she knows Mom is in the shower.

  7. coastingnz says:

Beautifully caught – a video would be interesting just to see exactly where their shinanigans lead….. (yes sorry can’t spell!)

  8. Haha love it, I will do stuff like that too!

  9. So funny! Our older dog Bear insists on laying on the bathroom rug during shower-time, so luckily he never gets into trouble, but they do other silliness when they think we’re not looking for sure- hah!

  10. raisingdaisy says:

I think they behaved rather well, keeping their mischief to themselves instead of wreaking havoc on the furniture or carpeting! I love that photo of Eko’s paw on Penny’s head. 😀 Oh yes, we’ve snooped on Daisy LOTS of times. We can hear little footsteps going into odd places and some interesting steps that sound like dancing, so we’ve hidden and watched too. She’s usually investigating something very closely – I swear I can see her brain churning at her discoveries! She always senses we’re there within 30 seconds, though, even if we don’t make a sound.

  11. I love Eko! Penny is adorable! I just want to rub their bellies. For hours.

  12. that is just too hilarious!

  13. fozziemum says:

Yep and it’s hilarious hahahaah 🙂 great spy job! hugs Fozziemum

  14. I just love that picture of Eko alone with that wrinkled head that says, “What is that little pest of a sister going to do to me now?” A very long time ago, David Letterman set up a camera to spy on his dog while he was away. The entire video was of the dog going from one chair or sofa to another and taking long naps. I’m pretty sure that’s what I would see . . . only not on the furniture . . . I hope!

  15. Just love these two sweet dogs, how entertaining they are. Hugs and nose kisses

  16. Raud Kennedy says:

Every shoe I have ever lost to chewing was when I was in the shower.

  17. cafall says:

Haha – yes! I’ve gone as far as set up cameras so I can watch them on my iPhone. It’s sneaky, but how else am I going to know what they are really up to?

    Monty and Harlow

  18. OhMelvin says:

Hahahhahaah! I have done this too, not so sneakily though, i often hear a loud crash while I’m in the shower and run out to make sure lives weren’t lost and both boys are sitting, staring at me innocently.

  19. Donna says:

Yeah I can SO relate. Andy took a couple of years before he reluctantly gave up the fight and would get in the shower (my 1st lab…..passed in May 2014). Axel ( my 10 month old) is the drama King. He thinks I have to brush his teeth every time I brush mine…..he loves it. Same with flossing! Baths not so much. He spreads his legs out and tries to hang on the sides of the tub. Now….at 52 lbs this proves to be a workout for me. Yet….he wants me to wipe him off with a warm wash cloth every time he comes in from potty time!?! Yeah….spoiled tail dog but still….I don’t get it! Ha ha

  20. Donna says:

Yeah my favorite scene was the day I came home from work only to find my 100 dollar suede boots chewed up in hundreds of quarter size pieces. I asked Axel What happened? He walks over to the mess…..rolls a few pieces around with his nose….and looks up at me like ” oh my goodness, who did this!?!”. Then I swear he looked in my eyes and relayed this message…..” I think it was those burgers I hear at night (that you can’t seem to hear) and they broke in….chewed up your expensive boots….and left the mess. See, I told you I hear something out there at night!”. Eh…what can you do?

  21. Gail Simburger says:

It’s usually easy to tell what Leo’s been up to by the mess he’s left behind. He only gets into things when nobody is home which is only 2-3 hours per day. He is best at finding things we forgot about like the wrapped dog treats in the pile of Christmas presents or cough drops. Keeps us on our toes!

  22. Cupcake says:

Mom used to set up the GoPro camera when she left me. She said the chair cushions didn’t jump onto the floor. She was right…. Now she has a PetziConnect (spy) camera. She can watch me from the app on her phone when she’s gone and can also talk to me and pop treats out of the bottom of the camera. I’m not sure how I feel about this….

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  23. Sam’s hearing must be so incredibly acute because it’s rare that I can catch him doing something on the sly. Clearly I’m no 007!

  24. I do all the time, but these two old farts don’t do much. I think you need a hidden video camera.

  25. Boomdeeadda says:

Looks like the jig was up…for you Will, LOL Do you think Penny is a pest for Eko? I only ask because my brother had a wonderful Shepard named Rambo. A real gentle soul and good boy. When Rambo was about 7 or 8, along came Simba, a rambunctious youngster. I often felt sorry for Rambo because he could hardly ever be restful. I think he would have enjoyed being an only dog more.
