[VIDEO] Winter Baths

Eko and Penny do not like baths. Eko and Penny also do not like being cold. So baths in the cold of winter are pretty much their least favorite thing. Luckily, I’ve come up with a wintertime bath routine to help keep Eko and Penny clean, warm and content. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIydZ5yDOSQ

I am so vey impressed on your ability to bath them with minimal drama! RR’s are notorious for thinking that water will melt them. I can barely get the older guy out for a walk when it rains.

Perhaps it’s the warm blanket post bath. Whatever it is you should be very proud of them. Especially Mr Eko. Reluctant or not, he’s a pretty good boy. And Penny. Well, she’s coming along strong. Love those ears!:).

  2. Ellen Quilty says:

Awwww. You are such a good dad.Smart too.Forcing a Ridgeback to do anything is a losing proposition. Not only will you lose but they will not like you for it.My Ridgeback girl Nikki is currently flaked out on our bed in the sun drying off after her shower with Mommy.Clean and sweet smelling now!

  3. Ok that’s the trick… to take a bath together :o) I enjoyed that always to share the bathtub with my cousin as I was a kid…. seems we need a second dog, huh?

  4. Two words: peanut butter. A friend of mine recently suggested smearing peanut butter on the edge of the tub, both ends (so they’ll turn around to rinse the other side). Neeka and, especially Khoi, will jump into the water after very little hesitation. We call them Peanut Butter Baths. Original name, huh?

  5. fredrieka says:

I hate baths, but we have a woodburning stove so I scoot up as close as I can get to warm up.

  6. raisingdaisy says:

What a great routine you have there! Loved the video. That shot of the pups through the shower door had me laughing – so cute!! Daisy absolutely hates being blow-dried, but her hair is so thick, we have no choice. Four years old and she’s still fighting it!

  7. T&S says:

    Eko is so well behaved.
My male RR is such a drama queen when its time for a bath… my husband has to carry him into the shower.

  8. cafall says:

Our pups still get washed out in the yard during the winter, but here in AZ it’s a nice 75 degrees in the sun. Of course, they come right in afterwards and get the blanket treatment… 😉

  9. love that you bathe them both at the same time, great video.

  10. coastingnz says:

I don’t Will they seemed pretty happy to co-operate to me. Our boys are both pretty good too, take some convincing to get into the shower but once in they know the drill. They both love getting towel dried but would destroy the house running away from me if I brought out the hairdryer – tried it just the once and I learned very quickly that wasn’t going to work LOL

  11. Emmadog says:

We usually get baths in the morning as my fur takes quite a while to dry. Love your routine, though, great idea so they know what to expect.

  12. OhMelvin says:

Every time I see successful dog baths, especially in video (!) It makes me think I can do it! Um, wrong! Very wrong.

  13. Ohhh they have it made! The look of avoidance on Eko’s face was classic! Loved them in the tub together with the door shut. If you are this great with dogs, I can’t wait to see how you will be with kids! 😉

  14. Adorable as always! Bear seems to always enjoy a bath- because he loves to be clean! Scooter on the other hand hates them, but he’s still small enough to corral and bathe in the sink which keeps it pretty stress free for both of us. Both of our boys are big blowdryer fans too 😀

  15. Sage says:

Sounds like you have it done right! We did the tub routine for a while, but Sage (with her long hair) shook all over the bathroom and required a major cleanup. I now have a hot/cold faucet outdoors for hose offs and sometimes baths. Of course, our climate is less cold.

  16. Kismet says:

I wouldn’t know. They haven’t DARED to give this bird a bath.

  17. Great video! No wonder they enjoy this – they’re together, they’re warm and they totally trust you and that combination is TOUGH to beat!

  18. Soccermom says:

Love the video. I just signed up on this blog and I love seeing other Ridgebacks in action. I have a 5 month old RR female named Naya, we are crazy about her. I noticed your feeding bowls. Naya chows down on her food so quickly I need to give it to her in portions and with tennis balls in the bowl. The bowls in your video seem to do the trick.

  19. Marcela says:

Wow! I am going to tell my cousin, who also has a dog, that there is another person like me when it comes to dogs. Why? Because she told me that I really pamper Alex due to the fact that during Winter I heat up a pad that I place on her body to keep her warm and also to help with the mobility on her knee, the one she has an ACL injury on. I don’t bathe Alex like I used to do before, a couple of times a year. My vet suggested to bathe her once or twice a year during the Summer, but when I used to do it more frequent I also, like you, used a hair dryer and a heater after she bathed. I am so happy to know there are more people like me. Between you and me, I believe my cousin thinks I am a little crazy for doing all those things for Alex. By the way, I am impressed you can bathe 2 dogs at a time. Way to go Will!

  20. Genevieve says:

After-bath dinner! That’s brilliant! I wonder if that would stop Cupcake from drying herself by dragging her damp fur back and forth across the couch and the rug…. I can’t wait to try it.

  21. Jack loves the blow dryer, but Maggie is not a fan. I try to do baths on sunny days so they can do a little sunbathing afterwards. Not as easy in the winter, but one of the bennies of living in SoCal.

  22. What a great bath routine. I have given up on the little ones and they go to the groomer. Mazie and I still suffer through the bathroom routine together too, minus the blowdryer, she is afraid of it sad to say. Love the sleepy-time pups at the end the most. They are so sweet together 🙂
