Puppy Playdate: Then and Now

And like all puppies before him, Tripp learned wrestling is a give and take

This week we saw Tripp at the beach again. Or rather, he saw us and came sprinting over to play.

At nine months, Tripp is already larger than Eko and he cuts quite the figure

But Tripp still has plenty of puppy bounce

The old friends swatted, wrestled and romped with joy

“Hey, where’d she go?”

And in case Tripp forgot, Penny reminded him she’s still a complete nut. Eko looked on sympathetically.

“Tripp, I feel for your buddy. This is my life every day.”

“Tripp, you can join our support group for people/dogs that have to deal with Penny”

They both may have doubled in size since they last saw each other, but Penny and Trip picked up right where they left off.

Tripp and Penny this week

Tripp is the perfect friend for Penny. They’re the same age and he’s a big, affable pup, quite happy to let Penny pinball into him. Penny slept extra well after her beach trip with Tripp. I have a feeling these two are going to be friends for years to come.

Does your pup have any best friends they love to meet up with?

Comments for Puppy Playdate: Then and Now

Isn’t it great how dogs never forget each other and go right back to where they left off? I love the comparison photos of the two of them in September and now – amazing how you got the exact same shot!

  2. I so agree Tripp is the perfect pup for a wrestling on the beach. I wish I had such a friend too. I like to play with a shi-tzu girl, but my mom is always afraid I could swallow her accidentally :o)

  3. dashlilly says:

A RR Romp!!! What BEAUTIFUL dogs!!!!
    (and crazy!!)

  4. coastingnz says:

Wow Trip is huge! Love your dog park/beach – great to see the pups enjoying themselves. Our boys have “friends” come visit and it is definitely game on. Nico our 10 year old turns back into a puppy sometimes out-manouvering the younger ones – hilarious to watch.

  5. fredrieka says:

Oh I find out I am not tough regularly it is just part of the game

  6. meANXIETYme says:

All your pics are awesome, but getting almost the same exact “then and now” picture is incredible.

Butthead has my parents’ Lab to play with. They are pretty good buddies. Outside of that, we don’t get a ton of doggie visitors. A friend’s dog comes out to play every now and then, which Butthead loves, too. Then again, Butthead just loves to play, so if the other dog is game, then he/she will suddenly be the new best friend.

  7. Wow! The ‘then’ and ‘now’ of Penny and Trip is pretty great!

  8. Emmadog says:

Oh boy, with Valentine’s Day coming up, I smell some love in the air with those two! Amazing the two last shots are almost identical form!

  9. Cool “Then” and “Now” pic!!! That’s how Khia and I play. Sometimes she pins me down with one paw. Can you believe it?! It’s like a cheap shot considering she’s 3-4 times my size and has 70 lbs on me. Anyway, I’m glad Penny has someone to rough-house with. I’d be so sad if I didn’t get a good tousle in everyday.

  10. SandySays1 says:

Well I do. His name is Sarge and is a dreamy German S.

  11. Adam says:

Hank’s best friend is his sister. He seems to be twice as big as her now, but she generally gives better than she gets. His breeder ended up keeping her so we go down ever couple of weeks to play. She is the only play partner he gets be really let loose and play rough with.

  12. Harper Lee’s best friends are The Big Dogs–three Golden Retrievers ages 14 (the mom) and 10 (two of her puppies). She’s known them for almost six years (it’s so hard to believe that the two younger ones were younger than Harper Lee is now when they first met) and she loves them, because she’s still the puppy when she spends weekends at their house.
Love your photos of the playdate!

  13. Soccermom says:

Your Penny reminds me of my Naya. She is a crazy girl with lots of energy. I take her on long walks on a golf course, that during the winter, allows dogs off lease! This place has acres of space, all fenced in. Naya meets lots of dogs and because she’s only 5 months and LOVES to play, she gets everyone moving no matter what size the other dog is. Too bad we don’t meet other RRs though. She would be in heaven.

  14. Beautiful pics, beautiful dogs, thank you so much!
    Haven’t been here for a while….
Any news about Penny’s first snow experience? ( Even here in Germany we heard about winter hurricanes “attacking” the US,)

  15. Nikitaland says:

Penny might be small, but geez does she have stamina!

  16. So nice to have great doggy pals who can play together.

  17. How nifty to get the same photo 6 months apart. Clever you. Tripp is Beautiful, capital B. Looks like my old boy when he was a pup. Now he is happily curled up by my side as I type. He is going on 12!

  18. Wendy says:

I’ve been thinking all day that Eko, Penny and Will arriving at the beach must be like that line out of “Where The Wild Things Are”…. “And now,” cried Will, “let the wild rumpus start!” Just a slight misquote, but maybe it should be Penny instead of Will.

  19. Penny, Penny, Penny…you are definitely a ‘pill’ of a dog. Nice to see you have a new chew toy other than Eko now. 🙂 Oh, is Tripp in for a trip or what?!

  20. Donna says:

The very day I adopted Axel, he met my daughters lab mix, Adoni. Adoni is a 80 lb big boy and as dominate as they come. Axel was a whole 14 lbs puppy. Didn’t seem to matter to Axel one bit. He came alive the minute he saw Adoni.
It just so happened that I kept Adoni for a whole week the next week after the initial meeting. Now, one must understand, Adoni’s whole goal in life is to make sure every dog he meets understands that Adoni is in charge! That whole week, Adoni was a gentle giant. He let Axel crawl all over, pull his ears, bite his tail, jump off the couch and land on top of his back, steal the toys, etc. I think he knew he was baby. Ever since, Axel has been obsessed! My daughter brings Adoni to play every couple of weeks. Axel absolutely loses it when he sees Adoni. He is ALL over him from the beginning until the end. Then, when it is time to go home, Axel sits in the middle of the living room…..throws his head back…..and howls for at least 10 mins. He is almost pitiful!

  21. Those are some fun-loving, face-eating, air-borne doggies! I like when I see my friend, Lyla walking around. We both have to stay on our leashes, but by the time we’re finished saying hello, our leashes are twisted into a French braid.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  22. cafall says:

It’s always good if they have someone who matches their energy!

    Monty and Harlow

  23. How wonderful for Tripp and Penny that they have each other to rough house with. I am sure Eko enjoys the break 🙂
