And here’s what my patio looked like Sunday morning:

The blizzard dropped snow for over a day

As if making up for a mild December and January, Mother Nature quickly piled on the powder to kick off February. I couldn’t wait to introduce my little force of nature to her first blizzard. Penny liked her first taste of snow so it was no surprise she dove head first into the blizzard.

Literally, she dove head first into the blizzard

Eko tried to savor the experience

But Penny begged him to romp

The pups and the snow swirled around me

My wildchild Penny couldn’t get enough of barreling through the snow drifts

But, yeah, she’s still learning to brake in winter conditions

One of my favorite traditions is to go for a night time walk after a heavy snowfall. The world is quiet, peaceful and beautiful

At the park, the only sound was the pups’ paws dashing through the snow

One happy girl

Back at home, we settled into the couch, covered with blankets. Blizzards are great for two things – playing outside and curling up inside. Thankfully I have Eko and Penny to help me accomplish both!

Comments for One force of nature meets another

  1. You have brave pups that they walked with you trough the night. Not sure if I’m brave enough for such a “night shift” :o) we should rename that “smoke gets in your eye” song in “snow gets in your nose”, huh?

  2. Woohoowooooo! Wish I could play in the snowoowoowoo with youwooowooooo! Ku

  3. audrey says:

Do they get ‘icy’ snow packed in between the toes? My Lab does and she hates it.

  4. Oh I’m so jealous! In Northern California, we had the driest January on record. We would kill for snow. I thought of your pups this morning when I heard on NPR that you guys got a foot of snow. I wish you would share.

You’re so lucky – your snow came out here and turned into rain. It’s been raining all day, so tonight everything will be ice. We were so looking forward to more snow – it was bitter cold all weekend (single digits with below zero wind chills) and now we hit just above freezing in time for the snow to become rain. Poo! Send some lower temps out with your next snow please! 😉

Hey – and Emily!!! Great photos of the kids enjoying their outdoor adventures, Penny has been captured beautifully – love that look in her eye in – well lots of the photos actually, they tell the story all on their own. Brilliant. Stay warm though!

  7. dashlilly says:

We got snow Saturday into Sunday too and out we went at 6 AM on Sunday! Because it was so peaceful and beautiful. The doodles loved it all. Hooray for Snow!!! GREAT photos, as always

  8. we got dumped on too! Love seeing that your pups love it so much! Poor Dakota, he wouldn’t pee or poop because the snow was over his head and our complex hadn’t shoveled (and I don’t want my husband shoveling). My husband had to take him to the driveway at our complex (which was somewhat cleared out), so that he could pee and poop there!

  9. Kismet says:

Not for me, thank you. I’m native to SE Asia.

  10. fredrieka says:

woof it is cold here we did not get as much snow in Michigan as you did glad too

  11. Wendy says:

I love the photos of Eko and Penny (and Emily) in the snow. It makes me want to take a dog friendly road trip south this winter. However, I have a feeling that Curdie might just think the world had gone mad and sit there with a ‘get me out of here’ look on his face. Sheltie fluff really doesn’t get much of a workout in southern Queensland. I hope Eko’s coat can survive the Penny onslaught!

  12. Emmadog says:

It’s Bailie’s second winter, but she is still a major wild child in the snow and cold. So cute seeing Penny enjoying the snow so much. We are jealous as it all missed us by maybe 100 miles. Grrr…

  13. Super cool pics, Will!

  14. What FUN!!!! It did appear that you all were getting “hammered” with major snow and I guess the pups just loved it…….hopefully you didn’t have to go anywhere in it other than for walks with the dogs for FUN. Penny really does look like a wild child in the photos!

    Hugs, Pam

  15. Priceless! We received about 8″ Saturday night though Sam wasn’t nearly as enthusiastic as Penny girl. Maybe because he has to wear boots when it’s that deep. 😉

  16. Your pictures make me cold…I sure don’t miss that snowy weather – so glad we don’t live in NYC anymore!

  17. Marcela says:

Lol. Penny is just so funny. She attacks, yes attack, every experience with such energy, abandonment and delight. I truly envy her. Great pictures.

  18. Now that for sure is fun in the snow and looks like you have plenty enough for the fun too. The pups sure had a good time and the pictures are amazing. Hugs and nose kisses

  19. Those guys take romping to new heights! Your snow looks fluffy and fun. Mine is covered with a sheet of ice. I’m too little to crack through it, so I walk on top. I can’t romp very well, but at least the snow doesn’t touch my belly.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  20. What fun in a blizzard. we got a bunch of snow too and now it is snowing again.

  21. Penny does make a blizzard fun!!
