Montrose Dog Beach Appreciation Day

It seems anyone can make up their own holiday these days (see: Tortilla Chip Day, Bathtub Day, etc) so at least in this apartment we’ve declared February 24th “Montrose Dog Beach Appreciation Day.” We live such a short ride from the dog beach that I admit I’ve taken it for
It seems anyone can make up their own holiday these days (see: Tortilla Chip Day, Bathtub Day, etc) so at least in this apartment we’ve declared February 24th “Montrose Dog Beach Appreciation Day.” We live such a short ride from the dog beach that I admit I’ve taken it for granted. You’d be hard pressed to find another major city with such a large dog beach just a few miles from downtown. With Penny’s temporary ban from off-leash activities, I’ve realized just how spoiled we are to have the dog beach in our backyard. For the time being we’ll have to get by on memories of our last beach trip. 24.1

Every day is dog-beach appreciation day for Penny. It’s her absolute favorite place

24.2

There’s nowhere else in the city the pups can get up to top speed

24.3

Nothing makes me happier than watching these two race across the sand

24.4

Nothing makes them happier either!

24.6

And when they really get flying, it’s hard to tell where one ends and the other begins

24.7

I mean, I’m not even sure how this photo is possible. I’m pretty sure Eko shouldn’t have six legs…

24.8

Every day at Montrose Dog Beach is a good day

It could be another week or more until Penny gets the all-clear to return to off-leash activities. I imagine it’s going to be quite the homecoming for her. I might need to block off a whole day for that trip.

Absence certainly makes the heart grow fonder. We miss you Montrose and we promise to always appreciate you if you’ll take us back!

Comments for Montrose Dog Beach Appreciation Day

  1. I bet it will be a beach party when Penny is back on her beach :o)

  2. Why is Penny on a leash time-out?

Well according to daysoftheyear.com, March 26 is “Make Your Own Holiday Day”, so you can officially name it Montrose Dog Beach Appreciation Day! And I’m sure the town would appreciate the recognition. 🙂 Love the pics of those romping pups!!

Beach appreciation day is a great idea! We live next to the mountains but make a beach trip at least once a year. Something about watching the sand fly can’t be beat. They seem to sense just how special it is & they take full advantage of all it has to offer. Penny & Eko are lucky to have a dog beach so close by.

I’ll mark my calendar for a day in May to celebrate. A beach appreciation week is in the planning :).

  5. I’m sure you’re looking forward to no more “time outs” for Penny and no doubt she will appreciate no more diapers and time-outs too!!!!!

What are you going to do at the beach with all the global warming in your area?

  7. we are certain they will take you back! Wish more cities would follow the lead of fabulous Chicago and have dog beaches. They should be everywhere!

Aside from her friends and a few food items, Mom doesn’t miss anything about living in Germany except being on the 12km long over 1km wide beach with her dogs. It wasn’t a dog beach, and during tourist season off leash was frowned upon in the popular parts, but there was more than enough space to let the dogs out. We romped until the cows came home and let me tell you, cows come home late! It was the most fun and best exercise ever along with meeting tons of new friends. You all are lucky to have a nice dog beach so close.

Man really had to look hard at that “double” photo – awesome – six legs and three ears, but “one” very happy dog lol

  10. “I’m pretty sure Eko shouldn’t have six legs”…heh, heh…not to mention 3 ears. 🙂 Eko must be a Ripley’s Believe it or Not dog and here I always thought Penny would fit that bill. Love the beach photos and those two racing around there.

  11. Love the photo of Eko and Penny morphing into one. Fantastic! My humans and I hopped in the car and drove 12 hours straight to visit our Golden friends at a dog-friendly beach in Florida several months ago. It was the best day ever, for humans and dogs, so I can just imagine how happy Penny (and you and Eko) will be when you return to your beautiful beach and all your wonderful friends.

Nice place you have there! And we love your photos!

  13. I love the picture with 6 feet! Great photographic feat (pun intended) on your part.

I think I’ve been to Montrose Beach before — great beach! And the dogs look like they’re having a very fun time, 🙂

  15. These pictures are awesome! Brings on a big smile. 🙂

They look like they are having a blast:-)

  17. You are soooooo lucky to have a dog beach. It’s so cold where we live and i’ve been counting this days until Naya and I can get near some sand and still it won’t be like in Chicago. Treasure it!

  18. Gah! That six-legged picture is hilarious! Those doggies definitely go rogue at the beach! Soon, Penny…. Soon….

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  19. Whee just love these beach pigtures ^_^

    Such happy faces!!

  20. That is their day! Great fun at the beach! Penny you will be back at it soon.

How I wish I had something like a dog beach for my Axel! He is a lab/hound mix with unlimited amounts of energy. We don’t even have a freaking dog park! The only time he gets to enjoy socializing with other dogs is when we visit my daughter. She lives about 35 minutes from us and has access to a very nice dog park. (One that separates based on size). On top of that, the last 2 weeks has been winter weather conditions of snow, sleet, and ice.
But……Axel is having his 1st birthday on Feb. 28. We are going to visit my daughter where he gets to party! She has a 5 year lab mix that Axel adores! So much so that its actually more of an obsession. :)! Plus, her friend has adopted a girl who is also a lab/hound mix. Her name is Sitta and I have been told….she is Axel’s perfect match. Same size…..same weight….same breed….and 2 weeks younger! Best of all…she is just as hyperactive and rough during play. Axel is VERY rough when playing….all legs, paws, and wrestling. Yet getting to play is his most favorite thing in the world. So, Sitta is also coming to the birthday party. He will have so much fun. We even have a doggy birthday cake….goody bags….toys….etc. can’t wait!!

  22. […] Saturday we cruised the stretch of road that leads to Eko and Penny’s favorite beach. But with Canine Influenza still lingering in the city, we drove right on by. Penny let out a sad […]
