A Dog-Friendly Guide to Spring in Chicago

As it inevitably does, winter still grapples for control of the skies with spring. In Chicago that means 70 degree days followed by the heavy snowfall we received yesterday morning. The nice thing about dogs though, is that no matter which kind of “spring” day it is, it’s always beach weather. Undeterred by the snow, I scraped off the car and we had our day at the beach. It was surreal to see summer-like waves roll up on a snow-covered shore

For the pups, snow just meant more fun powder to romp in

The sting of a spring snowstorm was significantly lessened when I watched the dogs ham it up

“Hey buddy, we see you taking photos. We got a blog, we’re ready for our close up.”

The day wasn’t what I would have hoped for, but it was more fun than I could have expected. The weird weather made for some fun photos

And a couple goofy pups

With this crazy spring weather, you just never know what you’ll see.

For example, we’re pretty sure we saw these dogs elect this wizard as their leader

So if you’re visiting Chicago with your dog in the spring, you’re going to the beach. Now as to whether you’ll need a beach umbrella or just a regular umbrella? Better pack both.

Comments for A Dog-Friendly Guide to Spring in Chicago

  1. Oh I will visit the beach first… maybe that magic wand of this wizard is still there ?

  2. Emmadog says:

Glad the sharing worked…we had 70 last week and 10″ of snow Sunday night…I would hate to enjoy it alone! Bailie romped so much in the deep, heavy snow yesterday, Mom thought she was dead last night. She was so sound asleep, Mom couldn’t wake her up, but she had a blast.

  3. fredrieka says:

still looks pretty cold cannot wait for the real deal

  4. Eko and Penny are much more easy-going about Chicago’s drastic weather changes than my dog (we’re in the suburbs). When we left the house for our walk yesterday morning, he refused to go past the end of the driveway. No romping in the snow for him!

  5. It’s having trouble deciding to be Spring here too…….there were snowflakes at 4AM then a brief bit of sun and now overcast and cold……it wasn’t nice to tease us with a couple of decent days…..I want Spring to STAY!

p.s. Great pix as usual! Especially the wizard….tee hee

  6. raisingdaisy says:

We had a major snowfall on the first day of spring, and surprisingly, Daisy decided to romp in chest-high snow for the first time! Maybe she thinks a spring snow is more appealing than a winter snow?

  7. Love it! 70 sounds amazing— I would be thrilled with 50 at this point! Great pics 🙂

  8. Same in Michigan but too bad in the metro Detroit area we don’t have a beach like that, sure wish we did!

  9. coastingnz says:

bbrrrr that does look cold especially as I sit here at 7am in a skirt and singlet top ready for the day ahead…..

  10. Kismet says:

It’s not spring in Chicago until the ivy in Wrigley starts sprouting leaves.

  11. If weather there is anything like 80202, spring storms are pawsome–dump one day, next day nearly all melted (and vice-versa!). Enjoy the tuckering out sessions, but make sure to keep the wind in your zip code please. 😉

  12. Eliza Waters says:

Beautiful dogs! They know how to have a good time! 😀

  13. dogdaz says:

Love the shot of the 2 of them looking over the fence. Is this really spring? Sure doesn’t seem beachy to me.

  14. Those were fun photos! So nice you have a spot to go to for exercise and great photos

  15. Complete opposite weather out here in California. Great photos!
