Puppy’s New Bed

I remember the first time I tried a fish stick. “Well, this is the height of what the sea has to offer me,” I thought. Who could have ever imagined there could be any seafood more delectable than the glorious fish stick?? Of course, as I grew up I quickly
I remember the first time I tried a fish stick. “Well, this is the height of what the sea has to offer me,” I thought. Who could have ever imagined there could be any seafood more delectable than the glorious fish stick?? Of course, as I grew up I quickly realized my beloved fish stick was a far cry from sushi. Recently, Penny’s undergone a similar realization. She LOVES her crate. Since she first came home it’s been her comfy, cozy and favorite retreat. But Penny’s started to sniff out the truth.Rhodesian Ridgeback, puppy, chicago, adventure, bed, dogs, ,marking our territory

“Hey, what’s that big fluffy thing Eko sleeps on every night?”

And that’s how the other night I went to bed and found Penny like this.

No going back

And Eko like this…

It beats trying to fight for space with Penny

Penny has made it quite clear she’s seen the light and will no longer be relegated to substandard bedding.

Penny’s not shy about staking her claim

“Hey Will, how about helping a guy out here?”

Penny’s been staying out of her crate during the day with perfect behavior for the past couple months. At night I haven’t been closing the door to her crate either and she’s slept just fine. All signs said it was time to order a big-kid bed, so that’s what I did.

As with all packages, both pups staked their claim

I ordered a Big Barker bed for Penny, just like the one Eko has. After burning through a few $40-$50 beds with Eko I finally learned a quality bed was well worth the $150 (sale price).

Now, I’ll be the first to admit I stage plenty of silly photos for this blog with the pups wearing hats and what not. But I promise you the next photo is a candid shot of what happened after I opened the box.

So maybe I should have spent zero dollars on Eko’s bed?

Penny on the other hand jumped right on her new digs

And Eko soon joined her, if only to show he could steal her stuff too

The crate is gone and we now have one superbed for both dogs. Perfect for paw-holding when Penny gets scared at night!

The first night of MEGABED was a resounding success. As an added bonus, Emily says there’s just enough room for one more if I ever get in trouble. She’s kidding. I think.

Comments for Puppy’s New Bed

  1. dashlilly says:

I love it! There are great beds out there and, you’re right, spend now because you will just end up spending later. Favorite dog bed story? My sister got a big beautiful bed for her black lab, Coal. So comfortable that in fact one night I found my sister, her daughter and on of the small dogs (they have four dogs) asleep on Coal’s bed. Where was Coal? On my sister’s bed! And that wasn’t a one time occurrence, I have heard from niece!

  2. hmmmm maybe you can ask the store if it possible to send the bed back and you keep the box? could be a deal… but the best idea is to order another bed… just in case… :o)

  3. Jeff says:

Eko might have been testing the box to see if Penny would fit. He might be planning a Garfield trick.

  4. Marcela says:

Lol. I don’t think Emily was kidding. I agree with you re a good bed. I also went through a bunch of beds for Alex, later on realizing that the best thing to do was to buy one durable, comfortable, even if a little pricey bed for Alex.

  5. nerdgrl (Kim S.) says:

Steffi would stay in her crate while we were out of the house but she didn’t much like it at night. Mommy and Daddy’s bed was preferred until she was about ten and then it was a huge pile of blankets at the bottom of the bed on the floor. She also had a big dog pillow in every room of the house. Yes, absolutely she was spoiled. We still have all the items so it will be interesting to see what the new pup will prefer. Love the pic of the two of them pawholding. How cute is that???!!!

  6. The baby of the family always seems to take first dibs on the especially good stuff and locations. But who can resist her adorable face? Here’s hoping there’s never a need for you on one of those beds!

  7. meANXIETYme says:

Butthead still sleeps in her crate (open door policy) during the day, trading it around for a bed and for the cold, tile floor. At night she’s always on her dog bed in our bedroom. Le Moo sleeps everywhere (except a crate because we didn’t have to crate train her) seemingly without much preference for one over another.
Never caught one of them in a box, though. 😉

  8. Lori says:

That’s awesome….they look like very comfy and happy pups!

  9. Connie Taylor says:

Eko is just like any kid, they have more fun with the box the toy, bed, etc. came in than the actual item you bought them! I was going to get rid of the old bed our other dog slept on after we had to put him down, but Riley has claimed that bed and is happy to remember the warm memories of his older brother while he’s sleeping there. 🙂 🙂

  10. Animals let us know under no uncertain terms what they want. So cute!

  11. Kismet says:

Emily is serious. The honeymoon isn’t over, you just haven’t started it yet.

  12. coastingnz says:

Yey – well done Penny, and Eko too. My gosh how cute was that shot with Eko curled up in the box – adorable as both pups are. They are super lucky to have you and Emily as parents and you have super adorable “kids”.

  13. Cathy & Banjo says:

Eko in the box is too funny! All the cats I’ve ever had have done that, but I didn’t realize dogs would, too!

Your little Penny is all grown up… still a little goofberry puppy underneath it all, though.

  14. Isn’t it amazing how they tell us when they are done with their crates? Dakota used to love his, then one day, he refused to go into it, and that was it! Occasionally he will sit under the coffee table (I think he was having flashbacks lol)….

Those beds are marvelous and the box photo cracked me up.

Oh and I LOVE how Emily thinks hehehe!!

  15. Emmadog says:

Good or Penny. Bailie was never crated at night and never had a problem, she has her problem times only during the daytime!

  16. Cupcake says:

Gah! The bed-box became a box-bed. So fun! The megabed is a beauty!

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  17. Megabed obviously is a BIG hit……..loved the box photo – you know maybe there’s a little bit of “cat” in every dog?

    Pam and Sam

  18. I agree investing in a good bed is worth it…and we have several of them throughout the house, office, living room, bedroom…you never know when a nap might be required.

  19. oh my gosh I would be so afraid of paying that much money on a bed in fear Gman would wreck it. Your dogs are so good not wrecking it. They do look very comfy thou.
