We love having Montrose Dog beach so close to home, but when we’re looking for even more room to romp we make the trip to Prairie Wolf Dog Preserve. The massive park just outside the city offers acres and acres of trails perfect for an energetic pup. Since Penny is officially back in action from surgery, a visit to Prairie Wolf seemed like a great way to celebrate. Rhodesian Ridgeback, puppy, chicago, adventure, cute, dog park, puppy

We dodged a few rain showers on our drive out, so we had the park nearly all to ourselves

Penny didn’t mind one bit! As if on cue, the sun came out and we had an incredible afternoon. Penny was over the moon

And over Eko.

And under him too.

She also made time to splash through every single puddle in the park

Penny wasn’t the only one airborne. Eko made a hasty retreat when his mud-covered sister tried to jump on him

Luckily the park has a nice lake where pups can cool/wash off

Nothing like a calm day and a couple wild pups

My favorite photo from our trip

For a couple hours on a warm summer afternoon it was just me, the pups and room to run. It was perfect.

Comments for Chicago’s Best Dog Park, Just for Us

  1. Penny your ears are eyecatchers :o) as always: it was the best decision ever to have two pups=double fun :o)

  2. Victoria says:

I love the smiles in the last picture – two very, very happy pups – too bad you didn’t get your smile in the pic too – i bet you had a big one as well

  3. dashlilly says:

Oh Penny, Penny, Penny. (LOVE that last photo!!!! )

  4. Kismet says:

RR’s don’t seem to be into hunting. If we let Kaci and Kali out like that, they’d be terrierizing the local wildlife.

  5. Cupcake says:

Perfect, P. I think it would be bad mojo to go over your brother without going under him, too. You’ve balanced it all out.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  6. Such joie de vrie watching them romp in open space. I’m out of breath from watching all their exertion though. Time to take a nap. 😉

  7. coastingnz says:

I think they may be where the saying “its a dog’s life” came from. Love it – love them! Great set of photos, talk about happy happy happy puppies.

  8. Misaki says:

That looks like so much fun!

  9. Elyse says:

    What a blast!

  10. C Taylor says:

So glad to see Penny and Eko having a great time and having the park to themselves. Nice to get back into a fun routine.

  11. Eve says:

Love the pictures of her running wild releasing all that bottled up energy! Good pictures Will!

  12. fredrieka says:

  15. You’re an awesome photographer. 🙂

  16. Emmadog says:

That last photo is wonderful! I think Bailie and I will be ready for a good romp in our yard on Monday when we are back home. We are totally worn out from all the stimulation at BlogPaws and then the drive tomorrow, but we will need some good workouts once we get a good night’s rest at home.

  17. Alex says:

Were Eko and Penny always good in the water? My RR is skeptical to go out into a wet yard and flat out refuses when it’s actually raining. He acts like acid is falling from the sky!
