In the early afternoon, the pups scrunch in the corner to catch the very first rays
They quickly find the best place to get toasty
As the afternoon moves along, the pups have to move as well to keep up with the sun
Midafternoon is the best because the sun warms the deck dead centerÂ
In the late afternoon the pups keep chasing the sun across the deck
They’ll sometimes get so hot that they actually have to pant, but they love it!
Around five o’clock I call my two suntanners in for dinner. By the time they’ve eaten and had a water break they’re ready for another warm nap. Unfortunately the sun is unwilling to wait for them.
Yet I’m the one who takes the blame when there’s no more sun to bathe in
I herd the pups back inside and assure them like Orphan Annie said, “The sun will come out tomorrow.”
Now, if only I could get these two as excited for an actual bath…
you can throw your clocks away, you have a double sundial :o)
that is so cool that you have a deck that they can lie out on. I love how they “hang” together! Just adorable!
Heh, heh…have never seen sun dial dogs before! Their sunward progression all afternoon long was pawsome.
nothing like the good ol summertime woof woof
Truly desert dogs! That warm sun is hard to pass up isn’t it! Actual bathes just aren’t as much fun. I know my guys feel the same way. RR’s are just that way. 🙂
Come to Arizona and they’ll get all the sun they can handle. When does the treat wagon arrive?
We have one sunbathing doodle and one shade bathing doodle. Dash LOVES to lie on the deck and get so hot that he is panting and panting to come in for some water. He pushes to the extreme. Lilly, on the other hand, can’t skip along fast enough to find the shade and settle in for a nice cool nap. No sun for her. Maybe she is a vampire?
sweet story today. my R.R. like to lay on the black driveway and get his solar power charge on nice days. cracks me up how they can stand it. 🙂
brilliant – like watching them in slow motion with their move across the deck through the day. Isn’t it amazing how they manage to find that first little bit of sunlight and just curl into a little ball to fit into it. Classic
Is there a way to bathe then outside?? I know we used to do that with Cody. He was able to sunbathe and we didn’t have to deal with dog smell and the drying off with towels thing.
It seems completely right that your beautiful red-gold dogs would love to soak up the sun. You must have had a fun afternoon taking those photos.
Cat bro Bert, Bailie, and I do the same thing in the wintertime in Mom’s office.
Deck naps look as toasty and comfy as asphalt street naps! Awesome!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
cute, Nellie will lay out in the sun and pant but won’t move to the shade, lol
Leo loves the sun too like his own personal sauna! Unfortunately he lays in loose tree droppings that stick to his fur like Velcro and tracks them all over the house. Oh what a mess!! We tried a bed to lay on outside but he will lay right next to it because it doesn’t get warm like the ground does. Anyone else have this problem and know of a solution?
Have you seen our Sun God post today 🙂
