Frankly, it’s a bit cramped

Emily and I recently decided to stay in Chicago after she graduates residency. So we began to look for an apartment of our own

Our goals were pretty modest. We started with the premise we’d like a bedroom where we could open the door without hitting a dog bed

And a place with plenty of a sun was a must. For all species

After months and months of searching I’m happy to report we found the perfect place! It has more space, it has plenty of sun and it has one particular amenity that’s extra special.

It’s walking distance to the dog beach!

Our bid was accepted last month but I’ve kept quiet until the deal was on firmer ground. We still have to make it through closing so I’m holding off on a full-scale celebration until we have the keys in hand.

That said, we couldn’t be more excited about the new digs. If all goes well, we’ll be blogging from the new headquarters before the end of the month. Can’t wait to share the adventure with everyone. More details to come asap!

congratulations! Y’all feel like family and I can’t wait to see pics from your family’s new home. Hope the pups get settled in ok (that’s most important!)

  2. Fozziemum says:

How exciting…we hope all goes well and soon you will be able to maybe stretch out those legs 🙂 ..but moving urghhh the actual move.i feel for you 🙂 hugs Fozziemum xx

  3. Congrats, I can’t wait to see the new Casa Eko&Penny :o) Paws crossed for the moving, hope efurryhing goes well and the pups love their new headquarter :o)

  4. Stef says:

Congratulations! Nothing like your own home! You must send us an address or PO Box where we can send you guys a puppy themed housewarming gift! A thank you too for the gift you give us every day by sharing your pups (and life!). I love the photos!!

  5. Elyse says:

That’s exciting! Congratulations. The pups will be Hap-pee!

  6. Kim S (nerdgrl) says:

Congrats! I take that means Emily will “graduate” to a staff position at one of Chicago’s hospitals?? Not like my daddy who moved us half way across the country when he finished residency…though I can’t complain about having grown up in the midwest.

  7. Victoria says:

Sad to hear you won’t be moving out to West Virginia (we can always use some more good doctors and dog blogging folks) but glad you are getting a new bigger place to call your own! Congrats to you and the whole gang!

  8. Cupcake says:

So fun! Congratulations and good luck. We’ll celebrate harder when the keys are in your hand, but we are pre-excited for all of you.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  9. We couldn’t be happier for you! Buying your first home is scary and at the same time so exciting. The scary part, is you can’t call the landlord or super to fix a clogged pipe or replace a broken appliance; you have to do it yourself or pay someone. You learn skills you never knew you could. All with a curious pup hanging over your shoulder telling you it’s beach time. Congratulations and we can’t wait for the housewarming party! What should we bring? Khoi votes something squeaky. Neeka says bone.

  10. That is TRULY exciting news! Can’t wait to see the new place……the saying used to be “any place you hang your hat is home” but I think in yours and Emily’s case it’s “any place we hang the leashes” is home! Congratulations!

    Pam

  11. Eve says:

Congrats on the new dwelling and many happy years for you, Emily & the pups!! Good luck with moving and closing as my mom is also in this process!

  12. Wooo hooo! How very exciting for all of you! Eko and Penny will be owners of the dog beach before long 😉

  13. Nikitaland says:

Congratulations for ALL of you! But any place where you are all together, is called HOME. Huggies to all of you on your new adventures!

  14. Emmadog says:

Since Mom is a realtor, she says you have the right attitude, but unless your financing falls through, it should be a done deal. Hope it has plenty of room for the pups. When we bought our house, Mom’s biggest thing was a fenced yard for us girls. We are excited for you guys!

  15. KarenS says:

Congrats on taking that next big step in life. And how great is it that now it’s steps to a very special place for you all.

Bruno & Ty are envious that your pack can walk to a great place to let them run off leash! A smart move in so many ways.

  16. That is the most PAWESOME news ever!!! We have our paws crossed for you! Within walking distance to the beach? How cool is THAT!!???

  17. Connie Taylor says:

That is so awesome!! I bet Penny and Eko will help bring in their “things”. Being to close to the beach, they may want to go there several times a day. Good Luck!!!!

  18. Cate says:

So excited for y’all! and to see Penny and Eko figure out the new digs. When we moved our two labs kept trying to get in the car to go back “home” for the first month haha

  19. coastingnz says:

forget holding off the celebrations just getting this far is super exciting but yes that final day when keys are in the hand. Enjoy now too though – just as important and part of the process and all super exciting. Wow what a year – wedding and now new home together. Wahoo!!!!

  20. Wendy says:

Congratulations! Sounds like you nailed “Location, location, location”. Be honest now, you drove around streets near the dog beach checking out ‘for sale’ signs didn’t you?

The waiting is hard. I bought a house with my mum four and half years ago during a rain/flood event that went on for months. It was raining every time we inspected the house and the road was always flooded when some contract or loan document had to be signed. I thought I would never get that key! By the time I moved in the grass and pumpkin vines in the backyard had grown to epic proportions. The grass was so long that I kept hitting pumpkins with the mower because I couldn’t see them. I had quite a pile of pumpkins at the end. Not sure how the mower survived it.

I hope things go more smoothly for you and Emily getting into your new home and that your new home has a master bedroom big enough to accommodate dogs and people in style.

  21. Kismet says:

You’re right across Waveland Ave from Wrigley Field!!!?

  22. That is so awesome, I am so happy for you all. More room a place of your own and near the beach can’t beat that.

  23. raisingdaisy says:

Congratulations! I’m sure you’ll all be happy in your new home. Emphasis on *YOUR*. 😉

  24. Ogee says:

Fingers crossed the finish line is near. Hope you kept those boxes!

  25. Congratulations – walking distance to the beach, what lucky dogs!

  26. Congrats!! Now, will Penny and Eko help move actual items or just supervising and trying to be the boss dogs??

  27. Abbie says:

Oh my gosh, how exciting! I hope it goes through just fine! I can’t wait to see your new place…I’m a sucker for that kind of stuff. 😛

  28. Congrats! I adore that city!

  29. That is fantastic news! Congratulations. Let us know when the housewarming is.
    Wally & Sammy

  30. Jess says:

    Congrats!!

  31. OhMelvin says:

Yay! Can’t wait to hear more about it!

  32. Congratulations! Welcome to the world of home ownership. Always good to increase the pool size of misery on some days. 🙂 Actually it’s great to be in your own place and close to the dog beach…even better! Looking forward to hearing more of this new adventure.

  33. Geri Zeibert says:

Will, please tell me where n Chicago within walking distance to Montrose Beach you found an apartment that would take TWO Rhodesian Ridgeback size dogs? Is it a rental or are you buying a condo? In a complex? Not address or anything just major cross streets, if you would be so kind. PS absolutely adore your blog and your willingness to build something just to help Penny to learn!
