Recently, like dogs who wrestle with Penny, our world was flipped upside down.

But unlike this pup we don’t regret our decision!

The move to the new apartment has been expectedly hectic, so it’s nice to have the familiar reprieve of trips to Montrose Dog Beach for a break from unpacking boxes.

Nothing gets between the pups and beach time

What’s funny is the pups no longer realize when we’re going to the beach. After years of a familiar routine and a car ride they know every turn of, Eko and Penny are now a bit lost.

“Um, Will? Where are we?

One of the fun parts of the move has been getting lost with Eko and Penny. We walk new ways, find new paths and discover new places we’ve never seen before.

This wind whipped pier offers a new view of the city and a new backdrop for photos

There’s no better exploration companions than these two. All the new sights, smells and sounds offer a fun break from our old routine

In the end, the good news is all roads lead to the dog beach!

We’ll eventually find new routines and settle into new patterns, but until then we’re loving the experience of relearning to love Chicago from a new point of view.

That is so very exciting indeed! And I love it that ALL roads lead to the beach. I’m such a beach piggy too. XOXO – Bacon

  2. Yay for new adventures!

  3. Kismet says:

Dogs know. Kenzie the Westie (RIP Oct 2012) was OK with a car ride until we got to a certain intersection. He was still OK if we turned right, but went ape if we turned left. It was still ten miles to the groomer after the left turn.

  4. Who would have thought graffiti would make such a cool back drop? I love taking the dogs different routes to the lake, too. Of course it takes twice as long, even on shorter trails, because Neeka and Khoi have to stop and smell everything. New trails. New smells! Love how Eko sails over the fence. Khoi has that ability, but Neeka will wait for the gate to be opened for her. Such royalty.

  5. Oh yes, that’s right… you have to mark a new territory now…literally :o)

  6. Cupcake says:

Your new point of view looks amazing. What a relief that even the new roads lead to the beach. I LOVE those action shots. Actually, action seems like a weak word for what’s going down over there….. Wow!

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  7. derrycats says:

Great to shake things up once in a while, as long as it isn’t too roughly shaken!

  8. Nice ‘skid marks’ in the sand. 😉

  9. dashlilly says:

We recently spent a week at a friends house while floors were refinished (ugh, what a project! never again! we basically had to move out!–furniture and us). The doodles and I had a fabulous time walking our friend’s neighborhood. It was like a mini vacation (except I had to go to work everyday). We loved our walks and ensuing adventures– all three of us!

Change is as good as a holiday. We’re about to head off on an adventure with the boys – bit of a road trip to visit family down south but as long as the boys are in the car they won’t mind where we go!

  11. Debbie Schmidt says:

How tall is the fence Penny/Eko are gracefully clearing?

  12. Emmadog says:

New places are so exciting with all the new smells and stuff. Enjoy the newness while it lasts!

  13. you couldn’t be in a better city! I just LOVE Chicago!

  14. Geri Zeibert says:

Will, I have asked before but if ou replied I never saw it. Where near Montrose Beach did you find an apartment willing to take not just 1 but 2 large dogs? I am not asking for an exact address just large nearby cross streets please. Or did you buy a condo that has no rules regarding the size or quantity of dogs allowed?

  15. cafall says:

That would be nice! I’ve lived pretty much in the same ten mile area for the last thirty years – a little shake up would be pleasant!

  17. Great pictures and congrats on the move, enjoy your new place.
