A Couple of Characters

Eko and Penny often remind me of familiar characters from book and movies. Sometimes they’re the troublemaking Seussian creatures Thing 1 and Thing 2. Other times they’re Tweedledee and Tweedledum fromĀ Alice in Wonderland. I can’t say when, why or how these comparisons come to mind. But every once in a
Eko and Penny often remind me of familiar characters from book and movies. Sometimes they’re the troublemaking Seussian creatures Thing 1 and Thing 2. Other times they’re Tweedledee and Tweedledum fromĀ Alice in Wonderland. I can’t say when, why or how these comparisons come to mind. But every once in a while a new pair of names pop into my head from the ether. The latest comparison comes from one of the most famous comic books of all time. Eko is… Rhodesian Ridgeback, chicago, puppy, montrose dog beach

Batman

Maybe it’s the jawline, maybe it’s because Eko is the “strong and silent” type, but now that I’ve “seen” him as Batman I just can’t unsee it. In my mind it’s a perfect fit.

That obviously makes Penny’s character Robin, right? Not so fast. There’s a much better fit for her in the Batman universe. Penny is…

Rhodesian Ridgeback, chicago, puppy, montrose dog beach

The Joker!

Rhodesian Ridgeback, chicago, puppy, montrose dog beach

The Joker is a character obsessed with sowing chaos. Remind you of anyone??

And when the Joker terrorizes the citizens of Gotham/Chicago?

Batman swoops in to save the day!

In the comics the Joker and Batman are yin and yang. Two sides of the same coin. A perfect balance of order and chaos, each made betterĀ by the other.

If that doesn’t perfectly describe these two, I don’t know what does

From books to movies to just about any story in between, I always seem to find characters who remind me of my two.

What about you guys, do your pets ever remind you of characters from pop culture?

Comments for A Couple of Characters

  1. I KNEW you were going to say the Joker the second I realized where this was going!!!! Too funny! I am sure I can think of a duo for Dakota and Cody, but off the top of my head, right now, I can’t.

  2. That’s awesome! Sounds like you’ve already found their Halloween costumes- congrats on being ahead of the game! šŸ˜€

  3. PigLove says:

Snorts with piggy laughter. Sometimes mom/dad calls Houdini Thumper… he likes to kick the floor when he runs. Weird pooch huh? Dad calls the cats – at times – Harley and Davidson cause they are *always* running through the Hotel Thompson at high speeds. Moi – well I’m just Super Pig… šŸ™‚ XOXO – Bacon

  4. I agree LOL… and to be the Joker is much better than to be the Riddler – too much science… or the Penguin-bad karma and short legs… :o)

  5. Emmadog says:

Batman and Joker are perfect for them!

  6. I was going to say Robin for Penny but Joker is much better.

Cody was always nicknamed Snoopy. Both have big personalities, a love of food and sleep. Cost was also nicknamed Chicago dog– for a love of pizza and Chicago sports.

  7. Kismet says:

We don’t do pop culture. We’ve never seen anything with the Cartrashians.

  8. Victoria says:

Rigby and Muffin remind me of Mutt and Jeff – two mis-matched pals who hang together thru thick and thin – its a really old comic but it fits

  9. Wendy says:

You do ask tough questions at 5am! After a shower and a bit of thought… Curdie is Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Honey is Kingpin. Curdie patrols the backyard protecting us from big scary birds and keeping the cats in line. Honey is a lot smaller than the Kingpin but she is always finding ways to make trouble eg. Finding a hole in the fence and harassing passing pedestrians, digging in my pot plants, attacking Curdie if he gets too much affection (luckily he’s a lot bigger and has an impressive fluff barrier).
I hadn’t really thought about it before. It’s a long time since I used to borrow my brothers’ comics!

  10. raisingdaisy says:

Those characterizations definitely fit. I love that second photo of Penny with her tongue flying in the air! LOL

  11. coastingnz says:

oh my gosh yes – Penny is so the Joker and Eko does swoop in like Batman to save the day and remind Joker just who is boss – too funny.

  12. Joan says:

With my two, Buddy is the old crotchety, I’ll do it on my time Eeyore. Crazy young Sadie who never stops moving is Tigger. And she loves to annoy Eeyore!

  13. Marcela says:

Lol. Such a cool story. I can’t believe how big Penny got:-)

  14. fredrieka says:

dynamic duo out to fight squirrels and collect sticks

  15. Abbie says:

Oh my gosh, you made me laugh SO hard! I’ve only seen Batman Begins, but I do know the general storyline of the series. Too funny!

  16. T&S says:

We often say that our male is royalty (for example: never lies on the floor without a towel or a blanket) and our female is mr. Jekyll mr. Hyde šŸ™‚ šŸ˜‰
Altough, we also except your choices, since our dogs are very similar to yours!
