One of my favorite parts of vacation is how much time the dogs get to spend off-leash.

Sometimes that means relaxing in the sun

But inevitably, off-leash time means the dogs find adventure

Or adventure finds them!

Auggie and Penny picked up right where they left off and romped relentlessly

We also had the opportunity to give the dogs some more off leash time on a run through the trails near my mom’s house.

Eko and Penny galloped through the first fallen leaves of the season

And took time to breathe deep autumn breaths

There was no better way to end our vacation than with a trail run with these three

This trip was an unequivocal success!

After a delightful little twelve hour ride we made it back to Chicago in one piece. We’re back to reality, which means we’re all back to leashes. Some of those leashes are leather, other leashes are a bit more metaphorical!

It felt nice to cut loose for the week, but I think all species agree that it’s good to be home.

there is no place like home 🙂

  2. you created wonderful memories that way… and that’s probably a non-leather leash, but it’s super strong, I bet :o)

  3. LifeLoofah says:

We don’t get to the dog park as often as we’d like to, but it sure is satisfying getting to see our pup gallop around and have the time of her life when we do. Leashes are a necessary evil in the “real” world, but it’s so good for the soul to shed them now and again. 🙂

  4. Kismet says:

Leave it to Eko to start flirting with a pretty girl.

  5. Emmadog says:

Vacations and adventures are always fun, but there is no place like home!

  6. Way to cut loose guys! Always good to get away, but better to all come home all safely and in tact. 😉

  7. Elyse says:

My husband and I are starting to look for retirement places. My main criteria is that there MUST be places for Duncan to run off-leash. Active dogs really need it, and so do I!

It looks like you had a great time.

  8. Adventures are everywhere. Leash-free vacation adventures are the perfect change of pace.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

oh gosh isn’t Auggie a beauty! Fun, fun, fun for all the pups. Great going away and having adventures but nothing quite like coming home again.

  10. Connie Taylor says:

Looks like your vacation was great, always nice to have your own bed to sleep in. Do you take Eko and Penny’s beds with you? Did you get a new computer since you got back home?

  11. raisingdaisy says:

I love that expression on Auggie’s face when Penny decided to ramp up the play! LOL 😀 You were here during some of the most beautiful early fall weather, I’m glad the wedding isn’t this weekend during the tropical storm!

  12. Ogee says:

I see Eko enjoyed the best part of the vacation…someone to distract Penny!

  13. Abbie says:

Oh man, I’m always a bit bummed coming home from vacation, but I do know the relief of being home. 🙂 I really wish we could bring our dogs on vacation, but really, we have only gone on one since we got my dog, and it was a horrible experience for him. I feel awful, but there was nothing we could have done differently; we had left him with that dog-sitter before, and it had been fine. She didn’t tell us that her schedule had changed until we got back, and so he was in his crate for we don’t know how long. Anyway, we don’t have the money to go on vacation anyway, and since when we do go on vacation, we usually visit family that isn’t super dog-friendly, and we don’t have a good place to leave the dogs, we just haven’t gone anywhere since. I want to make sure I have someone really reliable and trustworthy before I leave my dog with them.

Whoa, sorry for that random epistle. I’m a but tired right now, and probably shouldn’t be commenting. 😉 😛

I don’t expect you to make a post on this, but I love your blog so much that I nominated you for the blogger recognition award. You and your cute pups make me smile and laugh when I’m having a rough day, and I have enjoyed reading every single post. I thought you deserved recognition. Thanks for being awesome! 🙂 https://cracksinthefence.wordpress.com/2015/09/29/blogger-recognition-award/

My fiancé and I live in New Jersey with our 11 month ridgeback Duke. At the beginning of the summer we drove down to South Carolina for the week. Duke who seems to have the energy level as Penny was extremely well behaved during the drive both ways. Although he was wiped out in the days following the trip, the day we got home I don’t think I’ve ever seen him so excited to see his home. Duke definitely seemed to be happy to be back home.

  15. South fun off leash. Great pictures
