As we pulled out of Chicago on our way to the wedding, Emily turned to me and said, “I can’t believe we can sleep in this weekend and not have to take out the dogs!” On Saturday morning we both instinctively woke up early and Emily said, “I wish the pups were here…” Thanks to the magic of cell phones, we were at least able to keep in touch with my brother. And based on what we saw, I think Eko and Penny might have had even more fun than we did this weekend.

Not only did my guys get to hang out with Doc and Cash all weekend…

They also got to join in on a massive sleepover in my brother’s bed. And I thought I spoiled them!

Yesterday we arrived back to our apartment while my brother happened to have the dogs out on a walk. We opened the door and it was too quiet. It wasn’t until James got back and the pups practically bulldozed us that we finally felt like we were home.

While James sipped on a well-earned beer, Eko tried to convince me of the merits of letting him sleep in our bed

Emily and I weren’t the only ones exhausted from the weekend.

After dinner Penny buried her head under the covers and Eko slept with his eyes open

This morning we’ve all had a slow start.

Penny’s practicing silent meditation

And I suspect Eko won’t be getting up any time soon

I think all species agree, it’s good to be home. Together.

So glad the kids had fun at your brother’s place. When are they going to come to your apt for a sleep-over there? p.s. Penny’s yoga pose is so classical, does she do any chants?

  3. Sleep in???? Never heard of it.

  4. That one photo of all of the pups together made me LOL….wonder if they played poker too? lol!!!!!!! Penny’s photo is hilarious! I am glad that everyone had a great time and I know Eko and Penny have to be ecstatic that you and Emily are HOME!!!!

I had a huge bed to myself at a hotel during a conference this weekend. It was huge! I could hardly make a dent in it!! Last night, I slept in my own bed and at one point my leg was hanging off the edge, thanks to the Doodles on my bed. Lilly was sleeping basically on top of my legs and Dash sleeping with his hips shifted so that he was up against my back. My preference after all is said and done? A bed filled with Doodles and me!!!

  6. Kismet says:

When the peeps travel, they take the dogs. They don’t consider a hotel room “home” even if the dogs are there.

Isn’t it funny how yes we think a night away would be great but come the morning we’re up at the usual “doggie” time and missing the kids – we are so pathetic lol Wouldn’t have it any other way though. Looks like everyone had a great time.

  8. Eve says:

These pictures as me laughing as a few of the face covered photos reminded me of Juley as she likes to cover her face too when the light is on & she is ready for bed. Loved all the photos! Glad you are back and had a good time.

  9. Emmadog says:

Mom, Bailie, and I went to a camp up north for nose work all weekend. We all had a blast, but it sure was good to get home to our own beds and start to recuperate. I know Mom doesn’t like to travel without us. She says it is sad to wake up with no pets needing her.

  10. Ogee says:

You have to be gone at least a week in that company before they REALLY miss you!

  11. Looks like the sleep over was a success in tiring them out.
