“I bet it would be more fun if I knocked this over”
I hoped the dogs would lose interest, but trying to outwait a pup is a fruitless endeavor.
They seemed committed to hanging out until something fun happened
And when nothing fun happened?
The pups made their own g=fun
This phenomenon permeates my entire life. If I’m doing something, so are the dogs, whether or not they’ve been invited and whether or not they even enjoy it.
Eko and Penny will stare at a salad with the same fervor as a steak
Anything I eat, these two are hoping to taste
On one occasion a few leaves of lettuce spilled onto the floor and the pups pounced. I could see neither of them enjoyed the taste but they kept right on chewing. I think they figured since I ate it, it must start to taste better eventually. It doesn’t, but the dogs remain hopeful.
When they can’t find a way to involve themselves directly, the pups’ favorite job is “supervisor.” With our recent move to the new apartment, Eko and Penny have had plenty of opportunity to actively manage our furniture arrangements.

I have no idea how felines claimed the plagiarist title “copy cat.” Part shadow, part mimic, part chaperone, dogs are better at copying than a xerox machine.
I’ve no doubt you guys have some good ones here. What kinds of copying do your pups do at home?
i don’t know about copying but i do know i do nothing without the dogs – except shower – i seem to be able to jump into the shower without them following me – they seem to know shower might mean bath and bath is bad in their opinion.
Easy is always my shadow… even in the bathroom, then I feel guilty somehow whe I see the pup waits next to the bathtub and the whole relax-plan goies to the dogs…. literally. I once thought Easy would copy an older dog who is perfect on a leash… we walked together, but there he suddenly turned from copy cat to individualist :o(
We know Mom’s patterns pretty well, so we hold our spots, but if we get wind/sound of something new going on, we are right there, front and center to check it out!
Oh man Kasper is the exact same with the “must eat this because mum is, no matter what it is…”
Zoey is funny because she will watch and watch as I eat something, but if it’s something she doesn’t like (salad, peppers etc) I will give her a piece, she will sniff and snub it, then go right back to waiting for more!!
Kaci and Kali love lettuce and get some every day-it’s good for them also.
I was looking at an information sign on a walk near the mountains just today, and Jess jumped up with both front paws and starting reading it too! You dogs are wonderful! Everything’s more fun with a dog! 🙂
I also like to eat everything Mom eats. And by “eat” I mean beg for a taste, bring it to the rug, chew it, and spit it out.

Talking about food reminded me of that time when my previous dog got ahold of a piece of ginger that had fallen on the floor. She pounced and just as quickly spit it out while making a gross “get it out of my mouth” face, and then looked from me to the ginger and wagged her tail. As I watched she repeated to pick it up, attempt to eat it, and then disgustedly spit it out at least 5 or 6 times over. She was convinced that since I let it drop it must be for her and it must be good, but she sure didn’t like it! It was one of the funniest moments we ever had.
I can’t move a muscle without Daisy jumping up, ready to follow me through the gates of Hell if necessary! She’s my little shadow, and she also thinks she should share whatever food bounty is around. And if I’m using a blanket, she wants part of that blanket; same with pillows or anything else. I find it very sweet. 🙂
Every time I put fresh bedding on the guest bed, Sadie seems to think it’s her job to unmake it!
Hobbes always wanted to be on the yoga mat with me when I stretch before/after my run. He will lie right next to me and watch me stretch or try to lick my face (‘Hey, Mom! Watcha doing?? Can I do it too??’) I have since taught him to stretch too when I say time to stretch. He will do a great downward dog and/or lie on his side and/or back to ‘stretch’ his front and back legs as far as he can, this is made even better when a belly rub is included!
If KC doesn’t like something he pushes it with his nose, “saying” no thank you! Jack Stack loves to sneak in a lick to the face if I bend down to do something. (I don’t want to be licked in the face).
The pups here are just like Eko and Penny! I gave up on my roller and mat after it was mass chaos every time I tried to stretch at home! Food? Hah! They are all SURE that they MUST be missing out and waiting just in case a morsel might fall!
Alfie’s just the same, got to join in with everything. Trying to put the duvet cover on without including a spaniel in the bedding is great fun. He started eating lettuce because I did, but he actually loves it. One weird dog!
Gwynn likes to try and hump me when I try to do yoga. When I shut that plan down, he simply curls up right beside me/under me, making for a really effective workout routine.
I would have to sit around all day for the dogs to get off something I wanted on. They seem to know when you want to do something and not be bothered.
