The most coveted heat is the roaring warmth of a winter fire
Eko and Penny will both happily bake in front of a flame, but we’ve discovered Penny is particularly obsessed with fire
Normally, nothing could extricate Penny from a comfy spot on Emily’s lap…
But nothing (and nobody!) gets between Penny and a front row seat at our fireplace
“Can you believe Will thought he could get away with stealing my spot?”
In the interest of breathing without a sixty pound weight on my chest, I acceded to Penny’s claim and retreated to the couch. Eko happily joined me. But Penny?
She cooked front and center right until the final ember died
Now, does Penny’s fire obsession have anything to do with her devilish ways? I certainly hope not…but there’s room for disagreement!
Clearly Penny is no ordinary fool. 😉 Stay warm guys-any way you can!
All that’s missing is the guy with the pitchfork!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
our boys love the fire too and would climb inside if they could. Nico when he was younger would practically put his nose right up to the fire door – until one day they touched…… say no more…….
I have two mutts and the one lab mix LOVED the fireplace so much she lays there for hours. Her skin gets super dry (it’s the kind of fireplace you turn on!) but we can’t deny her that obsession. We even put a bed right in front of it for her! Today’s installment resonated with us for sure! And the photos are great…very cozy and you’re lucky to have a real fireplace!!
Bailie and cat bro Bert lie in front of the fireplace and bake past well done every night. They both truly love it, and coincidentally, they are the two devils in our house!
Hmm, interesting theory Will. I think it’s the short hair…get a sweater for the poor girl – preferably cashmere.
I m with u penny, i love a fireplace. U go girl.
Ok don’t think I am totally nuts (even if I am lol), but….isn’t Penny an Aries? The element that represents the sign of Aries is FIRE……….that explains it! It also explains her determined, energetic, boisterous personality!!! She is one strong chick!
I turned on our gas logs yesterday because we finally got cold weather. Our pup, Roxy, has been quite curious about this wonderful source of warmth. She, also, jumped and backed away from it like she thought it might play. At least she stays out of the flame’s reach!
At night here, the temps get to the mid thirties. Kali is a heat seeking missile and crawls under the covers at night to share heat. Yes, we have the heat on but she wants more.
Our dog, Shania, loves the heat too, and there has been many hours in front of the fire place this winter. And now it is cold in Norway from south to north, east to west. But no snow, hopefully it will snow at sunday! Happy weekend!
Penny knows a good spot when she sees/feels it!!!!
Hugs, Sammy
Will, I don’t think Penny is obsessed with fire, but rather that she is cold. Very cold. Alex, my amazing girl, was skinny like your Penny and so I had to make sure that she wore a sweater inside the house, and on days that were very cold, I used to live in Maryland, I would put a heating pad in her bed and she would fall asleep for hours on end. Your Penny reminds me of my Alex, tall, gorgeous, skinny and with that beautiful face. Also neither one of them have much hair so that is why Penny adores your fire place.
We don’t have a fireplace but we do have 100 degree days during the summer and it blows my mind that Kali will sleep for quite long stretches in the direct sun baking away and panting. Being the worry wart doting dog parent (it comes from many years of being a worry wart doting people parent) I make her move out of the sun and drink water.
I would be enjoying the warmth too Penny. Preacher likes to sit on the hearth when I am lighting it.
